Lots of great modeling this weekend! I got to see the 7149 and work on her once, many years ago. It was a neat experiment. Had time to both run a few trains and take a video!

*Sigh* Back in the days when stereos produced REAL sound, and did not need the pathetic million mega-watts of today, to never attain that same quality level. Mine was a 4270 Marantz. (Quad.) Not the present day cheapo import junk version, but US built. Four Marantz Imperial 7 speakers. A Bang & Olufson TT. Nakamichi dual cassette deck. An Onkyo CD player. I could cause my house windows to shake and bow with just 25 watts!

But they need all that bass now. THAT is music.

Agree completely! You had some really excellent equipment there. Vehicle stereos too are overwrought in this era with a dozen speakers and megawatt amplifiers so that owners can make life miserable for others at traffic lights and gas stations with the volume cranked up to pain levels. Am I impressed? Hardly.

I rather miss all of what's seen below actually, and 8 Watts was way plenty enough in my '80 Honda.

8 Watts wasn't enough on my Honda 1200 Goldwing Aspencade with four speakers.

Somewhere, I have pics of BN6330, which is standard green/black, but has flares like this. Caught it in Seattle back in '95. Unique looking SD40-2!:D

I wanna' say they tried a Caterpillar engine in it?

At the Sebring Model Railroad Club yesterday...
The crew at the coal dock have plenty of work to do loading trucks for local delivery, but where's Bob?...[IMG]
...Bob has slipped through the gap in the fence, is sitting on an old lumber pile, and enjoying a smoke... and maybe a couple of belts from the bottle in his pocket.

At the same time, most of the crew at the logging camp have quit for the day...

But Dave couldn't hear the whistle over the noise at the sawmill so he'll finish one more log before he notices that there no one left to feed him another.

Yes it did have a clatterpillar engine, till it was gone off the roster I believe. It was the highest hp unit on the BN for a while. And was one of the only really successful cat re-engined locomotives.

As I recall it, there was a modified tank car sandwiched between two engines.

Were these engines still considered to be SD40-2? Scrapped or rebuilt back to original SD40-2 configuration?

It has been an extremely hectic two weeks. No modeling was done, however, I did take some time Labor Day evening, to make a quick cab ride video on my N-Scale Housatonic RR layout.
I apologize for the poor picture quality, as this was made using a very cheap, very small cube camera, which does not play well with the LED lighting in the room. Anyway, here is a northbound run as viewed from the cab. As you will see, there are a lot of areas that need finish scenery and detailing. There is also a sound glitch 3/4 of the way in. The loco sound didn't actually cut out, but the camera apparently glitched.

The level of scenic detail simply exceeds 'wow'. (y)(y)(y)

It was just another SD40-2. I think it is or was a HLCX UNIT. I think the units could be ran on LNG or Diesel, not sure what the mods were.

pomperaugrr, your layout is great. It represents the area of western Connecticut near where I grew up. Your industries fit well with those I've seen as I passed on trains. I recognized the NH Canaan station, I have one on my N-Scale layout. However, please refresh my memory on the station at the diamond. I've been by it a few times years ago, never used it, but my memory escapes me. Thanks for your cab ride.

    That's a really nice layout!(y)

It's amazing what one can actually do now with a tiny camera what only a kid's imagination could do way back in the '70s. Imagining myself in the cab or on the front platform watching the scenery go by...

    Thanks for the ride!:)

Thanks for the ride. The only real one I had was on the tram from East Troy to Mukwonago, WI. The the tracks end there. They don't go into Milwaukee anymore.

Hytec, the Station at the diamond is the Canaan Union Station. It stands at the site of the crossing between the New Haven and Central New England RR's. The CNE tracks are now long gone, except for a short portion that serves Specialty Minerals in Canaan. The 'diamond" was also recently removed, but preserved next to the station, as the station now houses a museum. The only other stations represented on my layout are the Cornwall Bridge station, that you may be referring to (now a private residence) and the New Milford station, which is also now a museum and police Dept. substation.

What area of CT did you grow up in? I live in southern Litchfield County.

What I called Canaan Station probably is the Cornwall Bridge station. IIRC, American Model Builders listed it as Canaan Station when I bought it 15+/- years ago. Though that kit is not in their product line today.

I grew up in New York State, <5 miles from the CT line. My uncle lived in Lakeville, and many of my friends lived from the coast to Danbury, so traveled that area often until the mid 1950's.

I was fortunate to see a NH freight in 1947, from the air, headed by an ALCO FA/FB set on the Maybrook line as it was crossing the NYC Harlem Div., at Towners, NY.
