I cant use pine sol around here. The stuff makes my wife sneeze and her throat starts swelling shut !! Funny thing is...we live in pine country and the pine smell outside doesn't bother her. I know there are 'chemicals' in pine sol and am sure that's what gets to her...but just smelling it...even from a distance has a terrible reaction on her. Go figure.
Roughly 27+ hrs soaking. Used toothbrush and some paint coming off ribs. We'll see what happens in 36hrs!
I have also ruined shells using Pine-Sol. If I recall correctly, they were entry-level Life-Like/Industrial Rail "Evans" boxcars.
Found this early Arnold Rapido N Scale ad today in the July 1962 Model Railroader. Pretty neat, pre-dating Revell's involvement. My first set from June 1968 looked like the set in the lower right, except mine was Revell Rapido and had a hometown C&NW locomotive, matching caboose and a power pack, along with the two cars and oval track sections.
Thanks for posting the MR ad, Dan. I have very few, if any, MR's from 1962 so I've never seen it. I think 1962 was when Arnold began switching from the "200" series to the "Rapido" stuff, right? They still had the 200 bodies but put new trucks with the standard Rapido couplers on them instead of the hooks. Later (1965, or so), they completely retooled with more accurate bodies. Doug
That was a long time before Kato, but it is interesting how the ad suggests several layouts, some non-trivial, kinda like Kato does even today.
In 1970, Arnold published a substantial all-color, horizontal format, spiral-bound technically oriented book on track design, wiring and operations. I so enjoyed it when I was young and still have it today because of the memories it holds. It's kind of a shame that as adults, most of us lose the limitless imagination we had as kids and all of the model railroad creativity it once spawned.
Got you beat Russ. I was booted out of an organization for bad breath. The mere fact I was breathing was considered bad enough to evict me.
