You want motivation to study harder in college? Try working in a steel mill blast furnace dept or foundry in July/August. My buddy worked in a coal mine where it was always 72 degrees. Didn't like the mine. So the next summer he worked with me in the foundry and then on the brick gang in the open hearth dept. He wanted to go back to the mine.

Or college... :) I worked construction, laying those BIG sewer pipes that you could walk through, and concrete forms for like big drainage ditches, during the Summer's in high school. I decided then I wanted to work inside, whatever job that was. But, best shape I was in for my entire life.

My father insisted I do farm work for the summers of high school. Mostly I drove tractor pulling a huge pea combine. Got to work before sun up and left after sundown. Nice sun tan come fall start of school.

Interesting, how we often remember our tribulations with a fondness for how they shaped us (some more literally than others).

That which does not kill us, makes us stronger.

Those bikers would have jumped the curb in front of the police cruiser.
Of course... that cruiser is a Fairlane 500 with police 'muscle car' upgrades that would have caught them in less than 9 seconds.

'390-cu.in., solid-lifter 330-hp Police Interceptor engine, which included a four-barrel carburetor, 10.1:1 compression, and a host of other beefed-up engine internals like a high-lift camshaft, high-performance valve springs, forged alloy exhaust valves, and an unrestricted air cleaner'... Damn, I love Ford's FE ....

I remember seeing a competition between a corvette and a crotch rocket on TV. The race was sited in varying environs from warehouses, to an abandoned industrial site, to an empty highway. The motorcycle built a lead in early situations where quick acceleration was king, but the corvette was better in turns and top speed (empty highway) where aerodynamics and cornering traction mattered, and ultimately won after reeling the motorcycle in on the highway. It surprised me how big a lead the motorcycle built up, and then lost in the end.

    But nothing outruns a radio...

The first time I saw the PIT maneuver was on a show about security transportation training (for body guards, etc.) They used it defensively by allowing the pursuer to catch up alongside, then quickly slow down and turn into the rear fender of the offending car.

    Hi All
Just to get this back on track, I see this Walthers kit is useful. It also comes with a steel shed. The HO version comes with an overhead crane in the shed, not sure this detail is included in the N scale shed though. Can anyone confirm?
    Thanks!

The crane is not included in the N scale kit. I looked hard at this kit a while back (for a different purpose).

I would look for a larger, more modern, high volume manufacturer or warehouse (converted to manufacturing, with enough height).

On the other hand, if there were other similar era buildings clustered around this one, that might give the appearance of higher volume capabilities necessary to support a need for large coils of steel delivered by rail. In other words, this kit might be good for small stamping mill that feeds other similar vintage buildings in an industrial complex.

You might look at some of the Pikestuff kits (or a combination of them). They are all more modern, pre-fab metal buildings, of an era (including to present) that might have been built for this purpose. They are easily kit-bashed and/or combined into larger buildings and complexes. Their MAC (Milton A Corp) kit is a good example; lots of folks use that kit for kitbashing. Pikestuff also sells expansion kits and accessories for extending an existing kit or kitbash.

Come to think of it, a producer of pre-fab metal buildings (of the kind modeled in Pikestuff kits), consumes raw sheet metal delivered on coil cars. And they might be surrounded by local businesses housed in those sheet metal buildings. Transportation costs of the prefab buildings would be cheap over such short distances, and they provide a local "showroom" of their pre-fab buildings in various configurations and uses. A pre-fab metal building manufacturer would also consume structural steel (I-beams, etc.) Structural steel would be delivered via flat cars or gondolas. The pre-fab building kits would be delivered to customer sites via truck.

When I was 17 (1974), I told my parents I was going away for college. To coerce me to stay in town and go to a JUCO my dad offered to get me a used car. That car was a 1966 Ford Fairlane GTA. That car had been trashed and his good buddy who owned a gas station/garage (remember those LOL) had rebuilt the 390cu V8 3 speed automatic. He just wanted $500 for it. I saw it from afar and looked good... dull white with red stripe... but said Naaahhhh. I don't know how bad the interior was or how rusty it may have been... but at 17 I was probably a DUMB-ASP!

But you get hypercar performance for quite a bit less $ in a 1k+ liter sport bike/crotch rocket. I've been less than impressed with the japanese sport bikes when it comes to handling the twisties though so curious as to the make size of the bike in that competition. Vettes have really upped their game in the last decade or so. Finally someone had the mind to get the weight distribution more even on the wheels so they are now very capable. I'd still and unquestioningly opt for an supercharged emira over a vette though if I were inclined to get another performance cage.

One of my favorite kits. It DOES comes with that light duty overhead canopy. I doubt the prototype would be sturdy enough to handle a crane large enough to unload coils from a coil car.
