Had an interesting experience yesterday. As I went up the Circle Hwy to the UPS building, I saw 4 big units pulling ten oil cans up to the tank farm, Then about an hour and a half later, the same power was on a coal train pulling into town on one track. I am not sure where the coal train was left while the power was doing the switching,
Took time yesterday to stop and enjoy this slow crawl out of town, with some interesting loads and empties.
Saw this train pull in on Tuesday, and it was still here last night. Dwell times on many trains have to be outrageous anymore. Neat how the 7711 has an off color nose panel, and the GECX has it's wonderful custom paint.... It is an overcast, just got the fog off the ground morning when I took these shots. The heavy fog this morning will hopefully make for a few interesting shots....
That is a very good question, to which I have no answer. There is some graffiti on the tank which makes me think it had some there that got washed off with a heavy cleaner, which discolored the orange? On another note, went to Miles City yesterday afternoon, and had a happy accident with a grain train at this gorgeous bend in the Yellowstone. The light was right, the time was good and everything just worked!
It is a great location, too. And a favorite if I can catch a train there. Yesterday morning we were in thick ice fog, and that grain train was sitting here on one track. Look close and you can see that the left unit is NS. We later saw the empty coal train that is on the main when we were headed home. The grain cars to the left went out on the Dickinson or Beach local late last night.
Had an interesting catch this morning, one of those "O my gosh! A train!" moments! Followed by seeing that power being used as yard switchers and working hard,
It isn't often that I catch a train both entering Glendive and leaving. Today I was able to, even though it was about 8F outside! And to add the frosting, the coal train had that CSX hockey stick as second unit, while a bonnet was on the freight! Altogether an interesting catch today!
Thursday's catch was an even more exciting one! Ain't it purty??!! Cascade green and a pair of 40's!!
Oh yes! So, yesterday our Dr. appointment turned into a second consult, surgery is scheduled fro the 22nd. So, since we had time, we headed for Laurel to see what MRL blue we could catch, and first thing was a 40-2 switching! Then going to 'beans.'
Had a good catch on the 8th, I was heading over to get a picture of an NS unit and a SF bonnet at the east end, And heard a bit of radio chatter, because this empty was landing and this coal load with the NS unit was ready to go, just as soon as the empty landed.
And a shiny clean string of coal hoppers! Drop bottoms, too> And a lost UP, with a similar number to the pumpkin,
