I don't know how dear, but it is the railroad that runs through town, so I figure why not model what folks see around here.

Undec´s. The GP38-2 undec´s will be a January 13 release as it looks today. Based on the sales of the GP38-2 undec´s, we will make a decision wether undec´s should be a permanent part of our inventory.

    F7 Wheel Wipers

I don't know how many had done the wheel wipers mod on their old MTL F7's.
But wow! What a difference, yes it is very tedious to do and some excellent dexterity is a must, but afterward the end result is just great. I highly recommend doing this mod on this loco.

I don't know if those wipers are still available and if the email is still good thought.

I have started some testing with DMX controlled LED strip lighting for my layout. To control the different light I have 15 channels, 2x3 channels is used for RGB LED stripes and other channels will be used for single LED strips and other LED's.
Below you can see the first sunset setup testing, with 2 groups of RGB LED's behind the buildings.

Nice effect! I must admit, though, that it seems like a bit of overkill, using 15 channels to control RGB LED strips... I accomplished the same effect using just two strips--one a mix of yellow, orange and red (strategically positioned to create a realistic glow), the other blue--tied to two ordinary dimmers controlled with DC motors. A third dimmer controlled room lighting so that everything created a sunset/sunrise effect by throwing one switch. (Variable DC also allowed me to control the length of the transition from day to night.) I admit you've got more options available to you, and kudos for that, but this sort of thing can be accomplished with far less technology. Just saying...

If that was the only thing I want to control, I could use much less channels. And I could have used 1 or 2 channels for the background light and not 6 for two groups of RGB LED's. But this will give me flexibility to make whatever color I want. All the other channels will be used for layout main light, room main light, layout blue light night effect, strobeeffects(ligthening, combined with sound), building lights, street lights, etc. My main reason to use this is its easy to make a show using the PC to make it. And its fun to make this working.
And when I found very cheap controllers on Ebay, from 4-5$ up to 22$ included postage send directly from Hong Kong, this will be a very cheap solution.
    Like this items: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313&_nkw=PX24506&_sacat=0&_from=R40
And when I found LED stripes in 5 meter length, RGB, Warm White, etc very cheap the same place, I wanted to check it out.

In this blog entry my planned channelsetup are described:

Svein, that effect is very cool looking for sure. I think it really captures an early morning look. Very much pushing the old envelope for sure!

With two days to go to Zedex 2012 I've been putting the final touches to Shasta.

The station building is nearly complete I still have to do the name boards

I got the searchlight signals working but they still need ladders and the post painting silver, There are now Deer, horses, rock climbers and fishermen in position and a lot of trees.

Sadly didn't get time to finish the lighting canopy and fascia boards but that will be O.K for this weekend. next job on the list when I get back

Hope to see everybody there this weekend

Looks great Al. I have seen these types all the time since I live 1/2 a mile from the CN tracks. Well done.

Well the dark nights are here now, Time to get some modelling done.

I'm going to try and finish the Berkshire before the next show in January but it is too cold to go trailing out to the workshop tionight so i thought I'd do an 'indoor job'

Over ther last few years I have bought quite a few of the Marklin starter sets with the Northern Pacific 4-6-2 as they were excellent value for money. The 4-6-2s have all been converted to Nickel Plate 4-6-2 and 4-6-4s. The cabooses have been repainted into Nickel plate 'High Speed service' colours and the SP&S flat cars now see duty on the military train but the Great Northern gondolas seemed a bit surplus. looking through some old copies of Mainline modeller magazine I found some full sized kit bashed gondolas that the Canadian Pacific converted into woodchip cars.

Using the drawings but shortening to fit the Marklin Gondola I have started to make the extended sides and ends and the ribbing. Note that the upper ribbing is welded where the original ribbing was riveted. I am going to do at least four of these cars with the big CP logo at one end but might need some advice from you guys on how best to represent the load

I'll fit either MTL or Full throttle trucks ( the redundant Marklin trucks are used under scratchbuilt HTA coal hoppers on my british layout) and they will probably be a mix of weathered and clean paint jobs when done.

"cool" Svein-martin ! David, one of the great things about the mult-channels is that you can control each channel's time. Therefore, you can easily make the sunrise/sunset glow by offsetting the times, especiallyb in one area/region, like SM did or, in say a corner. In most cases, a 3 channel is OK but 5 is better (3xRGB, 1 Warm White, one Indigo Blue. Independent times really help, even if the overall lighting is uniform. you can use a shorter time to peak the warm whites for a more pronounced 'high noon', same with the blue.

Great stuff, love the steamer. I'd like a shell when you are ready!
