I am planning to paint some EMD demonstrator SD70M's and an SD40-3 in N scale. I was planning to get decals custom printed then just yesterday I saw the ones I want but they are in HO. The SD40-3 decals were available in O scale also but the serial numbers are MC-4078 for HO and 48-266 for O scale. They are not showing up on Micro scales web site anywhere in N, HO or O. I'm just wondering if they ever did exist for N scale.
I think you will find out both have been discontinued. They might be able to tell you when. If it's been a good while it's likely one if not both sets were never produced in N Scale as a suitable locomotive or at least a shell was available at the time. Since I was looking for an out of production decal from another supplier in N scale I searched my sources for the 2 you listed and only came up with exactly what you posted. 1 HO decal and 1 O scale decal.
Well bman was quite right. Microscale got back to me and advised that the HO and O scale decals are long out of production and there never was a N scale version. If anyone was hoping to paint some HO or O scale EMD demonstrators now is your chance with those bay listings. Here's what I found ....... https://www.ebay.com/itm/154947581981 https://www.ebay.com/itm/155835691110 https://www.ebay.com/itm/234998694071
If you could get a clear picture of them, copy it, and then scale it to N scale. Run it off on decal paper.
I have contacted Matthew at CC and they seem to be my best solution. I have several quite different projects. I want several different demonstrator (EMD) that have not been commercially available. I also want quite a lot of pinstripes to suit SP Daylight diesels and passenger cars ----- just the pinstripes. Those PA1 & E7 number boards make it very difficult to use the orange stripe of the Microscale decal set. I can mask the orange and spray it easier than it may seem. Some decals are coloured and I'm custom mixing most of the paint I'm using so that it will match locos I already have. I will need to get a decal proof sheet with a range of shades of colours ..... from there I choose which colour is correct and get the sheet adjusted. I will have to at least do most of my own artwork ...... if it's wrong it will be my fault ! I considered getting Microscale to do a custom run but I only need 4 sheets and I'm in Australia ....... the other 246 sheets would probably be wasted.
Since you are custom mixing paint, you can look at Reaper Miniatures paints. They have hundreds of excellent paints and they have a computer color match in their system.
Hey , thank you very much. I have a lot of AK 3rd Generation paint and have experienced little or no trouble spraying it after a bit of a learning curve ... nothing too traumatic that a bit of thinking didn't solve. The Reaper paint looks like it's water based acrylic like AK so the two should be easy to apply on the same rolling stock. I like Tru Color Paint cause it is available straight out of the bottle but getting it to Australia means a lot of dollars in postage and that is IF the shipping company doesn't realise it is lacquer based. I'm not sure how it goes if you want to remove Tru Color though. I hope it's not like Kato paint The only failing AK has is their colour chart ....... who the ??????????? made that thing ?? It's just wrong no matter what computer, monitor or phone I look at. The result is you buy what you think is close and after you get it you buy some more of a different shade. I haven't found the Reaper colour match thing yet but I will keep looking.
They do ship to Oz. Great paint, easily the equal of Vallejo. Here is the link to the palette: https://www.reapermini.com/powerpalette
