Thanks DragonDad, I will look into it. The little one will be about 18 months next Christmas. Good idea!
Playmobil makes virtually indestructable G scale trains that are built to withstand young kids. Yes, they look like toys because they are made of heavy plastic and meant to be played with. I bought a set in Germany 28 years ago, and after hands on play by three kids, it still runs great. I have moved on to a "real" G scale train around the tree, and am donating the Playmobil to the grandson's tree. Do a search on amazon.com for the "Tweetsie" train set and look for a review by Stan to see a video of the new train under the tree. Sent from my GT-N8013 using Tapatalk
You and Ken are right. Funny thing is, I told Angela that I wasn't planning on putting up the train this year, or if I did, it would be in my office. "Why?" Was her response with a rather sad look on her face. Angela likes the tradition, Jared likes the noise the train makes, Shelby doesn't live here anymore so... Christmas Train 2014 is back on schedule! Thanks guys!
Good for you Jim!!!! We don't have our tree up yet, it's been super busy around here but I want to propose something, let's have a post a pic of your Christmas Train! Sound like fun anyone? I'm planning to use my red and white Frisco GP 15-1 and the Frisco Chinese red caboose. I don't have any passenger cars to go with it si I'll just have to punt on rolling stock this year.
Well gents, I took the plunge and bought a second hand Christmas village, some extra goodies to go with it and am going to be working on a train for it this week. I've found some old cars I no longer run because of their era. So the Christmas train is taking shape. I have not been able to locate a 2014 Christmas car so I'm going to improvise this year. I will be running a UP 060 for motive power, a gon filled with presents, a boxcar or 2 and a caboose. I'm also toying with the idea of taking a tank and painting it up as a hot chocolate car. I'll post a picture once I get it running. I'm under a deadline as the annual grandkids sleep-over is this coming weekend. Wish me luck! BTW, thank you all for the inspiration. Merry Christmas guys!
Here is the 2014 Christmas Tree train. Hopefully this will be the first of many. The last picture is of our 4 month old grandson, taking his first train ride last night. Merry Christmas guys!
(December 21st, 2006) WOW - That was sooo long ago and seemingly far away. Ya, I agree it was a cheap shot to not include power. Won't do that again. Well, no promise for this year but if I can arrange it I'll get a loop running around a bunch of snow laden trees.
