    All about size.

    The 40-2 can be modified I guess. Picture the GP-35 chassis with longer shafts, so I suspect you can cut those down. And yes, I am working on a MP15, though it's taken a back seat to some other projects in the way (damn housework!!). I was able to get my hands on some 6mm motors from Maxon and I think those might work, but the length of the 8 and 6 mm are the same so there's no room for flywheels unless I put them on the outside of the gear tower. More later

    Cheers

    Joe, lots of us are planning to build a intermodal yard, but we need containers. I ask before about getting some, but I was told they are not sold separetely. Since MTL has change their mind about selling shells, I am hoping they will change their mind about selling containers. How about it Joe?

    Containers are not my thing, but MT does sell their other loads separately. Couldn't containers be considered a "load"?

    MTL Sell their Containers Separately??

    Yeah Right!!!

    MTL has no such plans to "EVER" release any of their containers as separate items let alone listed as a Load!

    For a Load is what it is!!! A load of Bull!!!!

    Hah!!! Gotcha!!! Thought I was being serious, didn't you!!! Hah!!!!

    I wish MTL would release the containers in packs. The only person I know of (from Washington), who does not like the MTL containers, put his up on ebay two years ago. I did not have the funds or I would have bought the lot. He would have preferred to trade evenly for Marklin containers, but I guess he had no takers.

    Knowing what Marklin container sets go for, what MMM and Searails containers go for, and what FR's reefer containers go for, I hope, if MTL ever does release containers as loads, they price them fairly!!!

    How about a conclusion Joe ('D)? Z scale minds are all yours!!!

    Since we are in the wishing mode, how about a 45' or a 48' container. How come the log car gets a new load every time, and we get the same container with the Huskys. Yes Joe, we are in a demanding mode.

    MMM = Make My Model

    $8 - $10 each - Made from delicate Rapid Prototyping Acrylic
    --------------------
    Searails

    $10+ - Made from delicate Rapid Prototyping Acrylic
    --------------------
    FR = Freudenreich Feinwerktechnik

    $4.00 each - Tough Injection Plastic
    --------------------
    MTL = Micro Trains Line

    $ Not Sold without Husky's - Tough Injection Plastic
    ---------------------------------------------------------

    Positives
    * Injection Plastic is Tougher
    * Injection Plastic has better details
    * Injection Plastic is cheaper in quantities

    Negatives
    * Rapid Prototyping is delicate and fragile
    * Rapid Prototyiping is Expensive
    * Rapid Prototyping is not as detailed as what Injected Plastic can be.

    Pros & Cons

    I would like to see MTL sell their containers at between $5-$6 each painted, and perhaps $4-$5 Un-painted. Cheaper would be better on my bank account.

    Hope this cost comparison along with Pros and Cons helps describe my message posted above!!!

    Tim, couple of years ago, I bid on some 53' containers made by a little known company. It was very detail, it was painted and decaled, and it was inexpensive. I think I pay $2.50 for one of them.Boy, I wish I had bought the whole lot.

    Containers

    Seems I'm spending a lot of time today chasing you around the internet Tim...you need to take up fishing :eek:)

    Actually I had a heart to heart with Ben and I think we are close to an agreement to provide containers in bulk pack. I think it just one of those things where we get so focused on the big picture we forget to consider some of the small stuff. In N scale our trailers and containers don't sell at all because of the expense...and there are so many of them out there to choose from, unless you are modeling a set period of time, they may not be useful. I know we have the 20' and 40', I got a box of them under my desk along with a fleet of unpainted well cars :eek:p..I see a fleet of SP Well Cars in my future!.

    Thanks for the suggestion and the throw down :eek:)

    Cheers

    MTL SD40-2 Locomotive

    Hello everyone.

    I am the Steve that Joe mentioned in his post about the SD40-2 Locomotive. I thought I would put up a jpeg of the design.

    You are lucky as you get a 'Red X'.
    This is what I get...

    The image “http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/attachment.php?attachmentid=3858&d=1178731827” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

    The image works just fine for me.
    I'm using Safari on a Mac but I wouldn't think that should matter.

    That image is not working for me either. It may need to be uploaded again.

    I got the red X too, then I did a 'Right Click' "Save Target As", and saved it to my desktop, then opened it up with MS Paint. Nice drawing! I can't wait for the loco!
