here are some pics of the old MKT line in Booneville, MO it is the drawbridge and the station. The UP main runs right along the river.
The tracks have been removed and the community is trying to make it a historcial landmark. It is about a block away from the depot.
Last I heard the bridge was a point of controversy; the UP is trying to dismantle it and move it to another point on the UP; local citizens are fighting. Their position is that it belongs to the state as it is part of the Katy trail. Which if true means that the Rail to Trail act that they fought to have declared constitutional is not what they really wanted. That case held for the citizens saying that it really wasn't a unlawful taking of property because the railroad could take it back anytime they wanted it. Now that the railroad wants it they now say; Oh we really didn't mean that. Haven't followed this as of late; so case might already be decided. Old adage "Be careful of what you ask for; you just might get it."
