I've received my SW-1 Switchers from Lajos today. They are really nice and a welcome additin to my SP Roster.
The SW-1 is a great runner, and as Robert Ray has shown, even can be fit for DCC... Just know if you run it you'll have to clean it from time to time and be careful not to strip off the black paint on the sides of the trucks Michael
Nice pictures. As addition, here is the photo of the prototype 1004 as built and purchased by SP Lines, then repainted a generation later. The original short smoke stack was quickly raised, so Jürg's model is correct, prototypical.
Don't worry. It's still a lot better runner than most of the high priced multi-axle brass locomotives...
Nice work Gerd, and excellent weathering too! Here's mine, assembled by Tim Beuhring, painted, window glazed, and DCC's by myself: And it pulls pretty good: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idVC8ksJPtk"]YouTube - Zthek SW1 DCC[/ame]
An Uhlenbrock 73400 Comfort Mini decoder fits perfectly. So will the new TCS. I used a0603 white SMT LED's for the lights, and painted them with Tamiya X-26 clear orange to kill the blue.
I just started up building my own SW-1 Switcher today that Jeff brought with him to Oslo this spring. So far I have soldered the main components together. Long time since I have soldered something like this so it's taking me some time to get it right. But the parts fit okay so far at least.
