I have been out of the hobby for a few years and when I decided to return I wanted to finish a project I started some time back. I have been showing Watash and he thought you might be interested in it.
First I decided to strip everything back to the base and start over. Everything is scratch built except for the tracks.
This is an early picture before I rebuilt the tracks...

Here is the bucket...(sorry only allowed 4 images)

With it stripped down...(sorry I'm only allowed 4 images)

This is with the rebuilt tracks and the newly finished radiator on the rear...

This is after mounting the 2 main "hydraulic" units...

The operator is actually 2 men spliced together as I couldn't find one in the correct position...(the 4 image thing again)

I have started on the maintenance hatches/rooms...

And here is a movie showing it in motion...(Hopefully the embed thing works, if not here is the URL... [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WuDGnUrblM"]YouTube - HO Scale Fully Working Excavator[/ame])
    <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/0WuDGnUrblM&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0WuDGnUrblM&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

There is still quite a bit to do before final sanding and then primer & paint.

    Hope you like it.

    Cheers

    Edward

Thanks, robotics would be cool, but no just MRR. I am space limited so I wanted to actually load the ore/coal.

    Cheers

that is cool you should build a hopper dumper the thing that holds the car down and it tips it upside down to unload it

That's really cool. I think Walthers still makes their operating rotary dumper kit if you're interested (although I'm sure you're capable of making your own after seeing this project).

Wow! Very cool. Ho scale no less.

So is it working off of compressed air or do you use push pull cables?

    That is WAY cool Edward!
I operate these things for a living & never thought I'd ever see a working one this small!
    Well done mate.

Thank you all for the kind comments, they are truly appreciated.:tb-biggrin:

About the Hydraulics, they're fake :) the 2 on the main boom are just along for the ride. The main boom is raised/lowered via a push rod. The secondary boom is operated by a cable (bicycle brake cable) inside tubes that runs up through to the end of the hydraulic ram. The buckets hydraulic has a spring (ball point pen) that pulls the bucket up to empty it, and a line runs from the body up through the 2 booms and pulls the bucket to fill it (15lb Northern braid fishing line)
This actually the third, and final, build. The first two were to work out reliable mechanics.
I'll put up some pics of the mechanics, and my progress, soon.

@southern6900 - there is a german firm that makes a true scale excavator with real hydraulics->http://www.bernett-modellbau.de/index2.html except they run about $4000 US, but check their you tube videos, very cool!
Thanks again for the support everyone

    Regards

    Edward

Edward is a genius at automation! I am anxious to see it working after all the painting is finished too.

It sure will be an eye catcher for visitors!

    Excellent craftsmanship Edward! :D

Thank you very much Watash. I am getting closer to painting, here some updated pics...(hopefully I can post more than 4 this time... when do you stop being moderated?)

I have finished the plumbing of the hydraulic lines...

    Another view...

This is the motor & gearbox that drive the bucket...

This is the drive for cab rotation...
(only 4 pics, I'll post them in another post)

And these two drive the booms, the one on the right drives the main boom, the left one the secondary boom...
(only 4 pics, I'll post them in another post)

I still have a few things to do before stripping it down for primer and paint.

    Cheers
