remember the 100 grain car train we ran on your new layout ? you didn't believe me that two sd90's would do the job. these are incredible locos. a bit picky on the track but pulling like horses.
mike if you don't want to use foam or wire/plaster for your scenery then i might have a solution. use wire and 'foam out of the bottle' . you know, this stuff that grows bigger and bigger once out of the bottle. might give you some of the advantages of foam but with the quick and easy building like wire.
I got some work done on the backdrop. Now it's not just an unpainted wall, it looks like sky, now for some more scenery!
This is the backdrop behind the big grain elevator, I am still going to paint the rolling hills of southern Alberta, but for now, I think it looks much better. I was going to do the facia today, but the switch on my table saw is broken!:curse: Here is the area just before the spiral tunnel, I've started some rough scenery, I'm still not sure how it's going to look. This is the spiral tunnel, most of the curved backdrop will be covered up with a mountain.
you don't even take the trains off the track ??? just some plastic on top ??? you're off to a good start with your scenery !
Hey Sandro, I moved every train and all the cars to the staging yard, but it is right full, so the ones that wouldn't fit, I just covered up with the plastic! Easier than taking them off!
Nice to see some progress! I see you did go for the extension into the middle of the room too, that should give you plenty more operations potential. Did you see I've finally made it to Canada, moved to Vancouver last week, so only a short drive, haha, to come and visit! I did remember to bring my DCC controller this time! Simon
Hi Simon! Welcome to Canada! I guess it's only a short 10-12 hour drive from Vancouver to Calgary! Give me a call if you are ever out this way! That new extension added about 60 feet of mainline track to the layout, which brings the run up to about 230 feet.
Thanks, I do intend to make a trip out your way at some point as I really want to go and see the spiral tunnels since I didn't get the chance last year due to them still being under the snow. Are you going to add any new industries on the extension? Think we chatted about maybe a sawmill to provide cars for the shingle plant last time.
I've been playing around painting some of the backdrop. Here are a few pictures of what I have so far. I planted a few trees in front to see how good they blend into the background.
I think the trees blend very well. I actually had to look to see where the real ones stop and the painted ones begin.
Mike- that looks great, what kind of trees are those? they look great, and its always awesome to see your progress, keep us updated- PLEASE!!! my best, Jan
