Kim, My altitude record is about 22,700 feet. We scaled the North Face of Orkun Mun (sic) in the Himalayas. Two seasons to do it and about $40,000! All extreme climbing. Just a hiker now. Wish I had that money back! Cheers, Jim CCRR

Me too! I'm the senior purchasing manager for a medical device manufacturing company. I get paid to spend millions of dollars (or more accurately, attempting to not spend millions of dollars).

    Cool thread.

I used to work in the train-restaurant on the international trains from the Netherlands to Germany. Right now I'm working as an audiovisual technician at the university. My "wild" days on the train are over...

    Robert, Kim,

After I graduated from College, I went to Olonie JR College (sp) to study Black and White Photography with a guy who was the chemist for Ansel Adams. I dated a girl who's dad was the administrator for the Mission Peak Wildlife area and lived in a small house near the top of the mountian. She hiked up and down that trail every day...best legs I ever saw on a woman ) Lots of good memories!

Those days I was working for Mattel and Worlds of Wonder Toys as a Designer and part time with Industrial Light and Magic doing special effects...(Rocketeer, Howard the Duck, Abyss, Always etc) Loved the Bay Area back in the 80's

For the past 9 years I have been the controls engineer for a company that manufactures newspaper printing presses. For 5 years before that I was self employed designing control systems for newspaper printing presses. For 6 years before that I was an applications engineer for a newspaper press manufacturer. From childhood until then, I worked in the printing industry. A lot of variety in my life.

    Wow!!!

I have seen other topics like this in the N scale forum and they were descriptive yet boring, but look at what I've started here. Short, sweet, descriptive colorful and lots of them. I never would have believed this thread growing this fast!!! Wow!!!!

Keep 'em coming. Very interesting to see what the wide variety of hobbies we fulltime Z scalers have. As if Z scale isn't fullfilling enough we have to get a side job!!!

Do we have to pick only one job? :)

As many of you know, I still have a 'day' job. I manage all the technology for two affiliated companies of the Columbus Dispatch here in Columbus OH. I have been with the Dispatch since 1994, and have worn quite a few different hats.

Or course the second job is driving Koreans and the Chinese crazy with Rob A! Actually, I have writing for model train publications since 1986. I have been affiliated with Ztrack since 1989. In 1997, I took over Ztrack and the rest is history. I spend more hours a week on Z scale than I do the day job. The goal is to someday, get down to only one job.

By the way, with all of my knowledge of computers, IT, printing, publishing, sales, marketing, distribution, design, web, etc, I have often been asked what I went to college for. I hold a BFA... in watercolor with a minor in oils and acrylics. The art degree really paid off!

Charlie, are you in Eastport? My wife and I were seriously considering moving to Maine back in 2003 but couldn't find a job that would pay me enough to let her stay at home with the kids (first one was on the way at the time). We were looking at the Brunswick area, had a house picked out and trying to get a job at the Naval Air Station. Now that it's being closed, I guess it's good that I didn't get a job there. I once put in an application with a headhunter that I didn't really follow up on at the time because I was just moving back to Virginia from living in NJ for 5 years. I found out later that it was the corporate energy manager for LL Bean. Oh well, that fish got away.

    My Job

How are all my bud-d-ds out there? Actually I have the greatest job in the world.

I circumsize elephants. Yes I am a elephant phallus carver. Been with Barnum & Bailey
    40 years.

HaHaHa just kidding folks. I am a retired police dispatcher, from Northwestern University Police. All you NU Alums out there. How many of you are NU grads?
Now I work part time with a firm that handles all the conventions and tradeshows
in the Chicago area. Just got thru working the 2008 Auto Show. Man it was
    beautiful.

Harold, you may be joking about the Circus, but my sister actually used to work in accounts receivable for Barum & Bailey (actually, the parent company Feld enetertainment). Their headquarters is here in the Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC. The fun part was that she got something like 10 free show passes when the circus came to town.

Anyone want to try to model the RBB&B circus train in Z? It's the longest passenger train in the USA.

Well, I retired in 1996 at the age of 55 with 33 years of service with a Major West coast oil company.

My last ten years were the most "fun" as I was a "Transportation Representative" at their local oil refinery. I was responsible for transportation, all modes, in West Texas , New Mexico, and Arizona. Even though my job description stated all modes, about 90% of my time was spent on rail related issues. Contracting for carriage, handling service problems, working economics for three railcar fleets that I managed and most of all service deficiencies by the "Sufferin Pathetic". Yes, they were sufferin then, but I love the SP anyway. I was trained in hazmat regulations (49CFR) and even trained car loaders/unloaders to meet FRA requirements. Even called out for a derailment on the AT&SF that envolved a couple of our LPG cars. Very busy. Very interesting. Very happy to be on sidelines now.
