Every now and then you post a rumor about an upcoming class, but I haven't seen one in quite a while. You're keeping us hanging!

    :tb-biggrin:

I still work for a railroad, just been on a 'Leave of Absence' since my back injury. Hopifully I will get released in the next couple of months to go back to work. If I don't get a 100% release, I will have to find something else to do for a living. :( It will all work out though I am sure.
I hope to have something new coming up, but I don't want to say yet what it is. I also am taking care of a problem in posting the classes, which is why I haven't done so in a while. It's personnal between the company I am with and myself and a poor excuse of a worker that is trying to make the classes out as something they are not. If he would have read the classes instead of finding a way to make them into something they are not he might have learned something and been a better and safer employee then he is, and thats all I am going to say about that. :)
Just bear with me! I hate it as much as everyone else!

I think I missed your back injury. That's no fun, hope you get better soon.

The OC clearly understood, or at least tolerated your education of the rest of us. Hopefully you can work out the issues with your current road. Best of luck, let us know if we can help.

Yea, I have been off over a year now. It's been very rough lately. Truth be told, the OC fired me because of the classes. LOL

Seriously? That has to be one of the lamest things ever.

On the one hand it doesn't surprise me, corporate America doesn't understand. On the other hand I thought the OC got it...

You not kidding it was lame! The last two years I worked there I worked every day...thats 7 days a week, 365 days for two years straight.
It ended up being a blessing in disguise. When I came to Alabama, I quickly promoted to Supervisior of Locomotive Engineers and made $30,000 more my first year here then I did working for the OC. I even wrote an email letter to the President of the OC, Bill Strawn, Thanking him for firing me for nothing. He wrote back that I was harrassing him and he would seek legal action if I continued to email him. Childish to say the least. :)

I know it's unlikely we can do anything for you, but if we can be of any assistance with your Alabama employer let us know!

I believe you're going to be at Louisville, perhaps a Reality Reduced interview is in order? :tb-cool:

I don't think Kimberly would mind.....she's so tired of being broke she wouldn't care if we had to move freight on Mopeds. Then we really would 'Get it there someday!' LOL:tb-tongue:

you can tell bill strawn what i think of him too. he didnt get the priviledge to fire me . that ohio central is a terrible railroad. like for example one day when i was the conductor and jerry was the engineer i almost got killed on the job. a semi truck made a hard left turn and fouled the track as i was shoving through . i almost got crushed between the railroad car and the semi truck. when i told the general manager terry fechtenbiner what happened, he just advised me that was our customer and the customer is always right. so he could have cared less if i was almost killed just as long as they were making money off some crappy customer. Terry ,,, Bill,,,......UP YOURS!:thumbs_down::tb-nerd:

Dan is correct on that issue.....OC did not care about safety. Many times those trucks had close calls with our trains and employees and if you complained about it, you were considered a trouble maker employee. I was even sent home one day for complaining after a different close call. I stopped the train and refused to operate the locomotive over a crossing until they talked to the company about racing the trains, and I was sent home. The day Dan almost was crushed they treated us both like we had no right to complain that Dan was almost killed by these trucks. To deaf ears our words were spoken. Jerry Jacobson is a good man and was a good guy to work for, and I believe he really cared about his workers, but he had/has some real idiots in high places.

If it wasn't for the Federal Employees Liability Act, the class I railroads wouldn't care about safety either.

I was wondering the same thing, the shortlines aren't covered under FELA? I thought the shortlines were a "happy" place to work. Sounds horrible. This disrespect for safety would never fly on a Class I. The lawyers would have a field day.

Shortlines are a 'Happy' place as long as you don't bring safety issues to managments attention. The switch I injuried my back on had been reported as hard to throw many times, and I had even wrote it up, but they never did anything to it. It operated, so it was fine, dispite being hard to throw.
Then I blow two disks and herniate one operating it one night, and in the depositions, the railroad Lawyer wanted to know why I would operate something that was unsafe. So these idiots are going to try and put the blame on me. By reporting it, they are saying I knew it was not operating 'correctly', or better yet, like it had since they took the railroad over and refused to fix it, so it is my fault I got hurt. I should have not operated it when I saw there was no 'grease' on it. Heck, if that was the case, we wouldn't be able to use ANY of this railroads switches.

Sounds like you have a solid case there Jerry. If they fall under FELA, I believe there only has to be partial negligence on the carriers part.
