Mostly posting because I know someone here is interested in trudks. This one is quite colorful.

We seem to be short on contributions this week. I like what I see, so I guess the quality will have to do over quantity. Maybe the long weekend will make a difference tomorrow. Love that rusty ol' hulk, Jeff. Soon a sappling will push up and lift off the steam dome on that old gal.

Here is my image for the week. A PRR 2-10-4 J1 holds back thousands of tons of coal while coasting down a nearly 3% grade. Her twin air pumps are thumping and wheezing like mad trying to keep up with the demands of all those air brakes.

I was working on this area last night, so I thought I'd post an oldie that I also use as my avatar.

Not sure I ever posted this--the addition of a tower at the Coast Guard Station. It used to have all sorts of radars on top, but they were demolished in my fall nearly two years ago. Think I put them on ships since then

Wow, it has been a slow weekend!

Sometimes I just plunk the camera down, and take an image. In this case, multiple slices of an image with Helicon Focus software. There was no way I could get my eye to the viewfinder, and you can't take the pentaprism off the Nikon prosumer cameras--actually can you do that with the pro models? You could on the film cameras, and that would be a great advantage here.

I'd like to remind folks about the concept of WFF, mostly defined by Russ Straw, who was not here tonight to start things off. First of all, it's a non-critiqued thread, unless the poster asks for criticism. That's been it's premise from the beginning, and that is the way it will continue into the future. This is Weekly Foto Fun, not Weekly Photo Competition nor Weekly Photo Critique. It is meant for exactly the opposite purpose--show us what you've done!

As a very early adopter of this thread, here and and on other threads, I've seen the quality of photos become exceptional in the last six years. I've seen my images improve. I've seen my modeling improve--in a friendly competition to model and photograph my railroad in its best light. I've learned a lot.

In a community such as Trainboard, there are modelers and photographers of vastly different talents, from newbie in each to professional in both. I want to state this very frankly, in order to be clear to all. Everyone is encouraged to post images, no matter where they are on the newbie-professional scale of modeling or photography. No one will be allowed to criticize, unless it is asked.

In the past, I've asked for criticism on WFF and elsewhere and, boy, have I gotten it! It's OK by me, as I'm a pro writer and semi-pro photographer. It's not OK by others, as I've learned over forty years in the creative arts, and then in management.

I'd also like to suggest that Russell Straw, the creator and mentor of WFF, start the thread each week. If he is not available, then another staff member will start it. I know that other forum members get anxious and want to jump the gun on Russ. My thinking is simply that Russ has shown his commitment to WFF for a very long time, perhaps six years or more, and we should honor that commitment, which extends over 300 weekly sessions. It's this type of long-range commitment by volunteers that keeps Trainboard running smoothly, and growing.

So, let's not jump the gun in starting WFF. Russ starts it pretty early on Friday here in the US. If he doesn't, another Trainboard staffer will start it by his request. It's his honor for shepherding it for more than six years. When I am available, I will start squashing other attempts by members to start it.

Let's keep WFF what it's supposed to be: Weekly Foto FUN.

    Some of my loading docks:

Merchant's Ice and Cold Storage is a long time San Antonio business. The structure still stands near Sunset Station in downtown San Antonio. My model is DPM modulars, but the exterior is painted to follow the prototype. The NW trailer is a new Atlas 45 foot.

HEB Warehouse. This dock is purely fictional although the HEB Grocery chain is a San Antonio based corporation.

Tractors just off loaded in Flatonia, Texas. This is a fictional scene Although Flatonia and Tower 3 in the background do follow the prototype.

These are just some photos I quickly took on the layout tonight. I'm having some focus problems.

Pete, I appreciate your timely remarks. I had not understood that Russell had been the host of the thread, so I must offer him an apology for the two or three times I have jumped the gun and initiated it myself. I sure didn't mean to step on anyone's toes. Also, and not wanting to get this thread off on a tangent, nor on a helix :tb-wink:, I applaud your sentiments about the nature of the thread. I have had my own battles on this very subject in my role as a moderator on another forum (some of you will know...but it doesn't matter). If it were a critiquing thread, the title would reflect as much in the word choices of the author. Instead, the key words are "photo" and "fun". What is not fun for any one viewer is to be left out of the thread, but I mean his/her overt expression of disapproval. All are encouraged to submit and to view. Offer constructive criticism by private email or if the person specifically requests it. Even then, the thread shouldn't get burdened by criticism of any one post.
