I seem to be remembering this one.....I think I saw it in Russia when I was searching for the E-006 turntable. I'm almost positive that it was up there somewhere.
Good luck to all....I'm off on vacation until Sunday. Hopefully it'll be found by then :tb-biggrin: Have fun searching!!!!
Well, I've found a great many 'things wot are blue' in Mongolia, but no turntables. So I'm going to go with gvcborders' suggestion of Russia - still inside the red box I note - and go away to argue with my helix. It could still be northern India - I was spending most of my effort there looking for rivers wot aren't blue
Well, I'm back from vacation and I've looked and looked all over the place for this thing. Still haven't found it! ....Beginning to think that it's not in Russia like I originally suspected.....
Ok....I'm just gonna wait for another clue/hint. I've been searching and searching and haven't been able to find it. I'm sure it's right under my nose, but I don't see it. Maybe someone else will get it and put me out of my misery. Scott, ATSF you guys are up!
Which is more accurate, the red box or the curved shot with it? Cause the former has a corner of Arabia on it and the latter stops at the ocean. Let's see... We're north of the Tropics, looking for a blue(!) turntable with what looks to be yard bits to the left and not much to the right. Road down the bottom with some vehicles. Based off the vehicles, I suspect the "eye alt" to be about 110m and the scale on the left to be about 32m. A picture of similar vehicles in my google earth tells me so. Since we're north, the shadows could match reality, or the photo could have been rotated up to about 45 degrees. More than that I find hard to believe. It's fairly dry, fairly arid, not very high resolution. Odds are it's near a town of some sort, as there's a yard implied; and those aren't often in the middle of nowhere. And now I'm out of straws to fish for. I'll trawl around Northern China for a bit and then go find something else to do. gvcborders: I'm not sure your faith in me is well placed; I was merely lucky in finding the last Advanced in India. I suggest we both watch Scott closely on this one Also, where's the next Advanced? These 'Expert' are too hard for me
So far you've deciphered more than I have. I originally thought Russia because I thought that's where I saw many blue turntables. I seem to remember a string of them along a route as well as some blue truss bridges, but I can't find them!! Hopefully we'll get a clue/hint here soon so we can narrow it down. My luck though is that it will probably be a smart a$$ hint like "Not Taiwan" which is only a TINY portion of the overall picture. :tb-biggrin: As far as the red box/curved picture, I've been treating it as if it's on the screen, it's fair game.
Okay, now he's just playing with us :tb-wink: This zoom seems to just leave China and Korea. Looking at (north) western China, where it's all desert-like, there's usually so much open space that they don't bother with turntables, going in for reversing wyes or full scale balloon / reverse loops. 1:1 scale reverse loops Kim Jong Il's little town of Pyongyang is just A Mess; it could be there. The Chinese-North Korea and Russia-North Korea rail crossings just seem Unlikely. Ditto the North Korea-South Korea crossing (there is one?!) So, if it's about it's probably in a mountainous and/or urban area, where land is at a premium to justify a turntable; or where there might be sufficient heavy works that they'd need to turn a loco.
Feedback I will say both as I make sure the location you seek is always visible in both... Oops, I see I forgot the red box in the recent clue. I will look to correct that soon... :tb-embarrassed: :tb-embarrassed: :tb-embarrassed: :tb-embarrassed:
You'd think it wouldn't be that hard to find with a big yellow push-pin sticking out of it! :we-eek: I've ruled out Mongolia (again?). Upon closer inspection, boy do they have a lot of track work, feeding a lot of heavy industry. I've ruled out the little bit of Russia that shows (Vladivostok is just under the zoom-in icon). I'm starting to wonder about Beijing and Pyongyang, both will be at least as bad as Ulaanbaatar for hunting for rails. I'm also starting to wonder about that shade of yellow soil. :we2-idea: Not that common. I'm also late for work! seeya!
Out of the six or seven turntables in Beijing, NONE of them happened to be the missing turntable. I can honestly say that there is a BOATLOAD of track in Beijing! Heck, I even searched all of the light rail there too (just in case). I'm done for tonight, back at it tomorrow to search some more. 99% sure it's not Beijing and surrounding towns.
Would I do that... YES! - Nope not Taiwan; but, you know that already... :tb-tongue: :tb-tongue: :tb-tongue: :tb-tongue:
