It's model related, but it will be a stationary model. My wife got me the Revell Plastic model for the 4-8-8-4 Big boy for Christmas. I haven't started building it yet because I am having a problem finding the paint. Revell does not say what manufacturers baint names or numbers are used in the instructions, and I cannot find the color names anywhwere so far. Revell does not even give paint chips and I wowuld really like to have the colors as close to right as possible. Here is what I have from the instruction sheet: The color numbers are from the German colors: Aluminum, metallic 99 Black, matt 8 Stone grey, matt 75 Olive brown, matt 86 Steel, metallic 91 Anthracite gray, matt 9 Fiery red, silky-matt 330 Brass, metallic 92 Any help would be appreciated, I really want to get this model built and to make it a nice looking one too.
You should be able to get those from Floquil in their polyscale acrylic paint line. finished product.
jtudor, here in Germany Revell sells thier own line of paint. The numbers appear to be referring to these paints (I checked Black 8 and Anthracite 9). I would suggest that you do not worry about these numbers but buy your favourite brand of paint based on the "name" of the paint alone. Cheers Dirk
Beware of using Floquil's solvent based paint. It's a lacquer based paint and might attack the plastic the model is molded from. I suggest using Scalecoat2 or one of the acrylic paints or Testors Model Master paints thinned a bit.
I finally found out that there is a Revell corss reference to Humbrol paint that seems pretty accurate, so I have now ordered some Humbrol from Red Frog Hobbies in NY and should have it in about a week. Aluminum, metallic: Revell 99 Humbrol 56 Black, matt: Revell 8 Humbrol 33 Stone grey, matt: Revell 75 Humbrol 64 Olive brown, matt: Revell 86 Humbrol 26 Steel, metallic: Revell 91 Humbrol 27003 Anthracite gray, matt: Revell 9 Humbrol 85 Fiery red, silky-matt: Revell 330 Humbrol 132 Brass, metallic: Revell 92 Humbrol 54
