I think I have measured a maximum of 163mm on the CTRL high speed lines through Kent in the UK, but that's 300km/h running with light weight stock. 6" would likely be a maximum figure in high speed freight use. The 'super' was quite noticeable when travelling at low speed.
You banked single track Unitrack? I've been trying to think how to go about doing that on some of the foreground curves I will have. What method did you use?, I'm thinking of sanding the foam base.
I'm thinking of getting to super-elevating single track Unitrack at some point too. PowerSteamGuy1790 used unitrack and has had superelevation for some time (see earlier post) not sure which technique Bob adopted, personally I'm considering the masking tape option initially.
Rob: I used styrene strips under the outer rail of the Unitrack. It worked very nicely on the "original" JJJ&E.
I use woodland scenics roadbed. When glueing the track down I use push pins over the inner rail to depress the track. So far so good it looks great and hasn't lifted in three years.
Thanks, folks, for sharing your experience and perspectives. I will be laying track in the next month or so and would like to add superelevation. I am leaning towards using 1/4" wide masking tape on top of my homasote subroadbed.
I'm glad this thread got bumped--I am installing new roadbed for the first time in two years and I'll now remember to add superelevation before my track. Jamie
FYI, I found 1/4" x 160 yd rolls of masking tape at CarQuest. $3.32/roll with tax. A bargain at twice the price.
