I was planning on using the woodlands foam inclines and wanted to know if anyone here has used it or what incline is best suited to Z scale? I was goint to purchase the 2 percent incline is this correct ? Thanks Mike...
I used them for all my grades. It's a nice product; quite flexible and sturdy. With the low-temp glue it's not going anywhere unless I say socute: There are 8 pieces per set. Each piece is 24" long and 2.5" wide. Use the grade percent that works best for you. The lighter the better. A 2% grade means a raise of 0.5" every 24". You will want to install a roadbed, cork or foam, to ensue the track is sitting properly and completely on the surface of the incline. You'll see what I mean as soon as you lay them down. If you want your train to go up a grade then come down somewhere else you will need two incline sets. You could use parallel tracks instead like one track upward and the other downward. I've used 25 to 30 feet or more of the 2% grade. Even made a helix of one and a half turns. You do that by having the track not quite a circle, but where track is "on top of itself", just move the outer loop to be parallel to the inner loop. This also forces you to have a couple of bridges. Two tracks wide is just perfect for the material. Since the material is open so you can snake out your track path, I lay down strips of cork for each track. Once the cork and track are down, I use a Kraft paper to fill in between the cork whch plugs the openings, so I can add ballast.
