Just saw this railroad featured on Tracks Ahead from March 2009. This guy's railroad is amazing and the video I saw on TV showed it with more of the scenic work done. He has more locos and cars than I think most individuals have in much smaller scales. Just check out the beginning when you see the racks of locos and cars! 7 locomotives, 91 reefers and a caboose! [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOFuchsmBoE&feature=channel_page"]YouTube - Long train going over itself!![/ame]
The owner and layout were on Tracks Ahead, they said he has spent a couple hundred thousand. His restaurant is also one of the sponsors of the show. Rancho de Tia Rosa in Mesa, AZ.
Some people buy 200 foot yachts; some buy a private 737; some buy million dollar cars at auction. Can't say I disagree with this guy's priorities.
I second that. All those other oversized status symbols cost a lot to operate, maintain, insure, license, and in some cases, you need someone else to operate them. Where's the fun in that? With this, it only costs a little MOW once in a while and you get to run it yourself. It won't sink, crash, or get stolen and sent to Abu Dhabi. That's way more fun!
