Rumor has it that GN F45 #441 has been cosmetically restored and will be placed at Essex?!?!?! When did this come about??? Be awesome to see, that's fur sure!!!
My understanding (per the gngoat@yahoo.com) this was originally a ATSF unit being restored/painted to BSB GN colors... even so, it will be interesting to see the results...:tb-cool::thumbs_up:
Check it out... Holy *#@?! guy's!! go to Izaak Walton Inn.com and check it out!! It will be available for rent as a room in October!! She's beautiful!!!:teeth:
GN 441 :thumbs_up:Just pulled up this floorplan from the Issac Walton Inn site. Looks like quite a room. Go on the site for a description of the room. GN 440 was the last locomotive delivered before BN took over.
As I understood the story, this is correct- It's not a GN, or BN unit. Although there was a "441" ordered, I believe it was built after the merger and was delivered new in BN paint. Guess this might be an excuse to wander up that way. After the tourists have thinned out some. Boxcab E50
GN 440 There was never a GN 441 it was delivered to the BN as 6614. GN 440 was the last locomotive delivered to the GN. It was built in August 1969 and retired in June of 1984 according to my BN motive power book and from www.Trainpix.com data. Still it's great to have a F-45 preserved in this unique way.
Right. That's what I was noting earlier. It was amongst the last dozen ordered, but delivered about four months or so after the merger. Boxcab E50
Which will also make the 2010 GNRHS Convention that much more special... Wife and I have been reserved for GN Great Lodge... but we'll be touring up towards Essex as well during our time there. :tb-biggrin: :tb-cool: Oh yeah... and we're arriving East Glacier via AMTRAK Empire Builder (her idea believe it or not!!) :tb-biggrin:
Awesome! Is it already in Essex? I had seen pics of it in the paint shop on Trainorders, and she looks great!
Here's the link about GN 441 at Izaak Walton Inn... http://www.izaakwaltoninn.com/gn441.htm :tb-biggrin:
I had an email this morning from a fellow in eastern Nebraska. (Of course now I cannot find it...) This unit would be, or already was, on the move west through his vicinity. So I am hoping to see if he grabs a few photos. Boxcab E50
300 bucks a nite, and a 3 nite minimum stay? Yowza, that's steep. But the "At the flick of a switch, the engine access doors will open up 60" a picture window view of the adjacent BNSF mainline." bit sounds worth the price!
I hope this link works. You can follow the GN 411 on Twitter. Get your real time updates for your photo opportunities. Hope you can get out Hemi! http://twitter.com/GN441
If it's at West Burlington, IA now, It's not likely to get here on a weekend day, which sucks. I hope I can get out, too!
Just heard from some friends about their experience staying in this housing. Said they thoroughly enjoyed it- Had a blast! Boxcab E50
Maybe I am an outlier here, but I actually like the Big Sky Blue scheme. Well, that does it. I am going to have to simply inform my wife that we have a trip to take.
Behind those two door pairs on the side are some nice windows. They said the view of train action is great. Boxcab E50
