Can't have too many trees, I always say... At least my wife says I say that a lot. Not exactly on the workbench but close to it. My new benchwork made for holding up a nice clothesline to hang some Supertrees. Started my "fall collection." Track has arrived so had to stop this mess.
The main company occupying my layout had at the beginning of the 20th century an engineer of German origin. This engineer with fact to come from Germany in 1912 an autoengine with accumulators AT3 bought from the railroads of Prussia ( KPEV) A first element in summer modified in vehicle of inspection of the network by installing a back box wider than the compartment traveler of origin There is not more than to paint.
I am about to put the finishing touches on it here shortly. I need to put the roofs on and do more weathering. Seen here with a Southern 2-8-0 and two of the 8 MTL N&W 55-ton hoppers I just got in. Comments and input on weathering and details appreciated :teeth:
Finished the sidewalls for the model of the ATSF roundhouse at Bakersfield, CA. Have built several roundhouses, but this is the first time that the exterior walls are being done first. First attempt at modeling a cast concrete wall.
Starting a passenger terminal throat using a new turnout building technique. With three double slip switches planned around the crossing it seems like it's going to be an exercise in patience (and hopefully not in futility), but I like to work on it in small increments.
DJ79, that is a great looking crossing. I recall the one I did last year. Had fun doing it, but when finished, said...no more . I imagine with all the double slip switches you have planned, there will be a LOT of these! Lots of great modeling going on and I am glad folks are taking the time to show their handywork. NCDaveD
my workbench is a disaster. Five ongoing projects...painting and decaling 2 SP&S F-7's in pinstripe scheme...painting and decaling 2 Mli F-7's in 'as delivered scheme, just finished painting a 50' Mil. ribside woodchip car, adding ribs to a Milw 40' 'veneer' car and repaiing a NKP caboose...but I DID just finish a SP&S caboose #716...I got so much on my work bench I can't find my work bench!!!!
WOW, that looks great! you really should make a mold of that and make a kit! (Not I) ATSF fans would love to have something like that
Did some more work today on the crossing, and made some pieces for the double slips (shown in various stages of assembly). I did the one on the left earlier, but I'll probably redo it to make it a bit narrower, like the crossing and the slip in the middle.
Comtemplating the next project. Improving the electrical pick-up of my small fleet of Bmann 4-4-0s. The remains of a Bmann kitbash to make some 4-6-0s, a 4-2-0 in the front. Actually got the danged thing to run. Won't pull nothing but itself down the track but it runs. Noticed I have to address a quartering issue with the left side Ten Wheeler and the rest generally stock or modified Bmann 4-4-0s. The Ten Wheelers will pull and climb like crazy and should with extra weight and six traction tires. I'm intending to scrap some, except the Ten Wheelers, and use the extra tenders to create additional pick-up after gutting them and modifying the pick-up providing some auxillary tenders to a few as additonal pick-up. The rest get stripped down of usable parts, cabs boarded up and set on a weed overgrown unused siding.
Spent the evening taking the lettering off of a BL-2. Wish Walthers would run more of these...I could use another Rock Island unit. You can figure out where I'm going with this...
Tomytec Cooling Towers The Tomytec cooling towers came in and it became apparent they were just a tad too big w/r/t everything else on the module, so I removed 1/2" in height and 1/2" in depth to get them to "look right" The kit comes so that you can build 2 seperate towers, or just don't install 2 ends and fit both together for a double wide single tower. The handrailings had to be modified, as well as the side ladder, but that was fairly easy. I did not care for the solid plastic disc in the tower vents (the things with the fan blades), so I removed most of the disc, just leaving 4 "spokes" to connect the fan hub mounting nub to the vent sides. Here it is on the module. Just waiting for the glue to dry. NCDaveD
Boy that is an interesting model! My question is did they have screens on the very top of the towers to keep debris from damaging the fan blades?
Been a while since there was anything but dust on my workbench... Fixing that hideous ride height on MT's bulkhead flat.
Next up, Hydra-Cushion draft gear, built, cast and mounted on an FVM DD box. Still need to cast the hydraulic "pot" that hangs under the car.
Joe, for the MT bulkhead, did you just body mount couplers and BLMA trucks? And for the FVM boxcar, any thoughts on offering those hydra cushion boxes?
