Wow, with all the activity at the local N Scale train convention and show here in Sugar Land I completely forgot to get this topic going this weekend. Here are a few overview shots I took of the NTRAK layout and train show while standing on a chair in the corner. A great time was had by all.
How come Russ Straw is the only one that can start WPF? Over at MRR anyone can start it. Not trying to start something here, just wondering.
Means that its definately going to start as Russ is a reliable member of Trainboard and starts us off with a good picture most times.
I might add that although anyone can start it on MRR its usually the same old, same old every week by the same guys , showing the same old, same old, looking for a pat on the back.
Yeah I noticed that over there too, atleast 2 months in a row i saw the same group of pics posted each weekend....

Just one of those "traditions" that go way back. Way back when another forum with a similar topic, was down for maintenance for a month, the staff here decided to start it here. It kind of kept going here even after the other forum was back on line. The staff here decided that for consistency, one of us would start it each week around the same time. When it is left to just anyone, there seems to be a "competition" to see who can start it first and it gets earlier and earlier in the week. Sometimes more than one of the same topic are started at the same time. I was not the first host and sort of took over after other moderators stepped down. Usually when I am out of town or otherwise unable to get it going, I ask another staff person or ever a non staff modeler who has expressed an interest to start the topic. We usually try to get it going Friday night Australia time.
Russel, it makes sense to me to have one person start a thread like this. I've been working on replacing a "toy" wheel loader with my first metal kit from GHQ. DJ.
Russ, thanks for the explanation. I agree its best to be started by one person because it always seems to be a competition otherwise. That is one of the many reasons I think Trainboard is way better than MRR. Now for a lighter side of a train forum I go to www.therailwire.net a lot of good guys with a sense of humor ,not the stuffiness I get over at mrr.

The above (quoting espeeboy's excellent description): the show stopper might have been the above by Greg Malinowski. It's an insanely good little crazy detailed/kitbashed/weathered "Bay Freight Division" - a small 36" diameter layout built on a perfectly round 1" thick piece of plywood! Those inside hidden curves and ones leading into the paved diamond crossing are about a 12" radius!!! FYI, Greg notes that his industrial creation and "Mini-Mo module" focal point is a "placebo" factory. Harry and some of the other attendees will probably be posting close-up shots of it but the layout features INSANE detail like a trashed ROW, detailed loading dock/parking lot, hand-painted graffiti, realistic texture on his parking lot pavement and building rooftop, the most realistic concrete K-rails you'll ever see... so much eye candy on such a small layout! Yes, I was fortunate to be there too: A great meet, thx to the organizers and all the folks that came from far and wide!
Nice shot Crandell. Theres something different about the scenery. It seems you have added a little more variety in the soil, rock, and plants. It may just be the lighting or my morning eyes.:tb-biggrin: Thanks for sharing the photos John S, good job.
I enjoy Crandell's pictures, instead of complaining, why not contribute? That's one thing I've never seen you do, here and at MRR. All The Best GS
GS, thanks. As I have posted in another current thread here on criticism, not everyone can do it well. But, he is free to have an opinion. I have changed the colour settings on the camera and added some muted sunlight. I also added a cloth cover that has been sprayed with glue and ground foam to cover nearby tracks.
Thanks, 2880, I used copious amounts of black weathering powder, Bar Mills, Aim, etc. Oh, well, Crandell, I guess we just can't please everyone. I, too, enjoy your photos and scenes. DJ.
Some recent weathering work I did. A Bachmann 4-8-4 Northern showing many years of neglect. A few cars I did yesterday.
