    One quick question, for someone:

Is contest scale specific, or can ANY scale model be photographed?

Gotta wait for it to get a little darker, before I can attempt the photo(s)
I'm interested in trying to get. Should be interesting, IF it works!
    Information appreciated.
    Thanks.

Any item not considered a prototypical/commercial engine, one that is a scaled representation of a larger, real-world working locomotive, is 'legal' for this particular contest. You could use a 1:4 scale locomotive if you had such a thing, even if it were 'live steam'. Bottom line, any scaled down locomotive or other item associated with the same scale, depending on the contest's theme.

    be almost usable!

A poor quality shot, at best!
Best one out of maybe 2 dozen tries, between Mom and I.
Everything else either too dark, or too blurry.
Colors slightly adjusted, to try and get subject a little more visible.
Again, a very poor quality shot!

    G Scale is certainly a model. :D

I would say Crandell named it pretty accurately. I would define it more specifically as anything that is not/was not in revenue service. Revenue Service being defined as equipment that operates for profit.

So SP 4449, though not currently in revenue service, it was at one time. Trains at zoos and tourist lines, same deal, they operate for profit.

Trains at a location like Train Mountain may charge a cover, but that's mostly for operating costs and is generally non-profit, so they are fair game. :)

Don't be so hard on yourself Keith, I love that shot! I consider this a MODELING challenge first, and a photo challenge second, so at least in my eyes, photo quality has little to do with it. :)

I wish I could have gotten my headlight shot in, but I've had a crazy weekend (slept during the days, awake all night.) Must be something to do with having watched the midnight showing of Inception on Saturday (incredible movie by the way!).

I posted my late entry in the Cutting Room Floor.

Anyways, poll is posted, get your votes in. :D

Keith, I have had next to no luck with my Powershot doing low light imagery. The problem is that the longer your exposure, the more 'noise' accumulates in the data set being accumulated by the CCD chip. The result is a grainy and unpleasing image. In that respect, you have at least equaled my best efforts.

Thanks, Mark. I am honoured to be in the company of Rasputen and his great low light shot. It is very hard to get one to work well.
