what do you guys think of these? these are a former UP ac4400 and a former CNW C44-9 if anyone wants to help on one of my future projects or give me ideas please feel free ot PM me my SP owns all of the company's UP does in addition we also own the ROCK. anyways our current task is to pick a number for our NRE Genset Switcher... it needs to be numbered somewhere between 2800-2899 pick a number you think we should go with and explain why briefly Also follow us on facebook... "like" the page "Southern Pacific Rail Corporation" to see more modern SP stuff
Looks cool! Though something tells me that if the SP acquired all these other roads, they would probably have a new paint scheme by now. The speed lettering they adopted in the early '90s was sort of an indicator of going in that direction.
the speed lettering was only implemented because of the Rio Grande buying the SP. since SP's name was better for business it stayed and so did the paint scheme but the lettering style changed to reflect the new owners. Since SP buys the other roads they are the owner and would therefore not want to change schemes to something one of the companies they took over had. UP didn't change their scheme after buying any roads so my SP won't either.
That's how we roll.:tb-cool: I wonder how different the world would be if the SP bought out the UP instead of the opposite. Hmm... ... ...I'd like that.:tb-wink: (Now I know that a decent percentage of the world that favors the UP is going to hunt me down and convict me for heresy. It's gonna be the Salem Witch Trials all over again.)
SP lives I think they look great and just as you've done them. Roll on Brother; roll on. And I sure do wish SP had been the ones to do the buying out. But it sure can be that way on our layouts:thumbs_up:
Those look nice, but I think you need to paint a long scarlet line thru the Union Pacific name on the side.
i chose not to cross it off since they left Southern on our lcoos when the patched ours and i wanted my patches to be unique
Ummm, dude, chill. I wasn't even criticizing you, just making an educated guess on what would have happened had the SP survived. The UP basically kept the same scheme and only added various elements over the years. The SP already had changed its diesel scheme a few times: Daylight, Black Widow, Bloody Nose. Since it had already changed its scheme over the years, there would be no tradition to break like the UP had. I'd be willing to bet that if the SP lived on today, we'd see a new scheme from them...What it would be, no one will ever know, so a guess is as good as anything.
Or we can give an engine a cheezy UP heritage scheme for them butchering the SP "Daylight" paint on #1996. BTW an SP SD70ACe would look really cool. You may also want to consider "throwback" paint for some of your SP diesels. Tiger Stripe, Black Widow, both would look awesome. Also, a what-if SP future scheme could be interesting. Kinda like this?
well here is what our ACes will look like (look at pic it is number 831 the day my SP takes UP)... as for heritage my idea has been this... i will have heritage units look as the real company painted their locos... for instance i have 4 ACes on order... two will be SP bloody nose, one will be SP 1988 Rio Grande unit painted black and orange and one will be SP 1980 which will be painted after The Rock, blue and white UP's would be a standard UP paint scheme but instead of a flag it would be the word Union Pacific... ive allways wanted to make a fancy paint schem for SP 1865 if anyone has any ideas for that id take them
SP Heritage: 1865 C. P. Huntington :tb-biggrin:Here it is! I took inspiration from SP's C. P. Huntington steam engine, hence the name under the numbers on this truly distinctive SD70ACe.
It's a tough call, the SP went from 3 paint schemes in 1958 down to one. Other than the changes in 1958, it remained unchanged until the introduction of speed lettering. Now, they did try 3 different daylight paint styles, a Bicentenial and Olympic paint scheme...but for all of the experimental paint scemes, the most successful was the popsycles NOW if it was my railroad, I would do a black widow with speed lettering.
i consdiered it so i ran a vote a long time ago for people to vote which scheme they liked best, bloody nose, daylight, or black widow, winner was bloody nose by one vote daylight second and black widow dead last not even close. Im not too fond of the scheme anyways so i wasn't upset by the result
If anything, I could see a modern SP doing what the UP and CP did and adding a large logo (flag in UP's case, Beaver in CP's case). I know my modern incarnation of the Central Pacific will have a logo on the side of the hood in that manner.
