    Updates on the SVS

I finally got around to rebuilding the engine house and service yard area. There's still some more detailing to do, but it's a marked improvement. And the wiring all works too. Unfortunately the turntable is powered by old fashioned Digital--that's the digits on which ever hand spins it. It's great to finally make some progress after a long period of procrastination and other diversions.

    Black and White RI Switchers

Looks like many of the pics in this Weekend Foto Fun have a black and white theme...so I took some shots of my black and white Rock Island SWs working the Kellar Branch Job, the RI BeltLine Job, and the daily transfer from the RI Yard in Peoria to the PPU East Peoria Yard.

Two show switching some cars in Kellar Yard in Peoria Heights near the Pabst Plant.

Nothing much pretty to show. Been working on a batch of Arnold GG-1's for a friend. I picked up 4 units at an auction that came from the repair bench of a closed hobbyshop. They had been using them for parts, mainly motors and worm gears missing. Everything else was brand new. Between the 4 of them, we had enough parts to make 2 run with the addition of worms from Kato and a couple MP15 motors from Atlas.

The scary thing is, these now run very good. The motor slowed them down and it has plenty of pull. Slow speed performace really surprised me.

He want's one painted up in the CR 4800 Bicentenial scheme so I have been working on the decals tonight.

Problem was, I spent more time fighting with the Alps than actually drawing them. Figured out the hard way that there is a reference reflector on printer door that the carriage uses to allign itself. Don't let that get dusty. After wiping off the chrome sticker, the printer worked like a champ. Just took an hour to figure it out.

    Thanks.
They're a factory paint job from Life-Like, 5 to 7 years ago, I think. I've converted the couplers but no other modifications. Eventually I'll convert them to DCC, but I dread carving out space for the decoders from the lead weight in the cab, because I need as much weight in them as possible for negotiating the 2% grade in the RI Kellar Branch helix.
