Okay I couldn't resist this one and I got it cheap on ebay! I'm going to do a build thread and I hope I don't mess it up. I'm taking my time. Please be around to help me.
That's going to be one sweet build. Looking at that brings back memories of family car trips - sometimes we gassed up at places that looked something like that, with the old-timey gas pumps. Even in the early 70's, in some backwoods villages, there still were places like that. And it's good to know that there's still a place that can fix my Packard... tongue:
Pumps set at an angle reminds me of my uncle's corner service station on a rural road back in Missouri. Love it. EDIT: and the trucks remind me of the one my other uncle drove for his small tree trimming business in that same small town. Love it more now!
I painted the walls white and painted the black strip at the bottom as directed and I started to assembly a few walls.
Love seeing those tri-fold style shop doors. Will you be making yours with a paved lot, or gravel similar to the first photo? Boxcab E50
progress Okay I have the front wall assembled and the truck garage. The truck garage is a seperate building but it is made to mate with the main building. I found it hard to keep everything straight. The wall is delicate and the windows and door caused it to not lie flat. It was hard but I got it done.
I hope you also will have a door marked "Gentlemen". We must be politically correct, doncha know. :tb-wink:
Yer right about that Hytec! But if there's a 'mens' room, Candy ... don't forget to make the door really grimy around the door knob (mechanics' hands are always dirty)
There's a, mens room, door on the side of the building. I just put on the sign yesterday. Grimy door! That's a good point. I knew a boy who was a mechanic and he smelled like gasoline all the time ! YUK! I've got more pictures to take. I had a bit of a problem with that Aleene's wood glue. It's no good on wood that's been painted..and it turns a nasty looking brown when dry. When I glued the back supports I tried to be careful but I had a brown stain that I had to paint over because it was visible from the open front doors of the truck garage. Also I had to redo some joints because of the Aleene's problem. I used white glue. It works fine.
Whoa, since Candy has lettered the one door as "Ladies", then she MUST have the other lettered "Gentlemen". If she chooses to include a third rest room lettered "Employees Only", then that one could be dirty, grimy, and otherwise unkempt. However, she may well hear loud cries of protest from any/all female employees, especially those who work in the office. Thank goodness this not my problem...:tb-ooh:
