Sounds to me like typical corp America.................................do more with less.................................to keep profits at an all time high!
We have asked our PR dept. about that, their answer was We are in the transportation business and no the pretty paint job business. And that is word for word... as for the BN 1,2 and 3 the Santa Fe did not want them around as they were BN and not Santa Fe
That is a pity. If they opened their eyes they would see they have some of the best heritage schemes in the business to work with. CSX's PR department must have thought it was worth spending money on, amazing how two companies in the same business can have such differing points of view. I've always thought the old Santa Fe's knack for good PR died when the 'BN' was tacked on in front of the 'SF'.
It's not so much that, it's that there is no mechanism for crews to flow between northern lines (where they are needed) and the rest of the system (where they are surplus). The only way to do that is borrow-out, which isn't even available to many terminals and the other is to make a seniority transfer, which not many people are willing to do since you go to the bottom of the roster at the new terminal.
