Here is a new building. I would like to see some photographs if anyone is using these buildings. So please share so others can see what can be done to give your background some more detail.

    Tom,
They are definitely appreciated. I've printed a bunch off in black and white so I can mock up my city area and choose the ones I want to print in color and actually use. Should have photos in the near future.

    THANK YOU!!

I've got a thirteen foot staging yard that is just begging for some building "backs" for scenic treatment.........and I see many good candidates here to be had for the printing.
Very nice of you to go to the trouble!!

Likewise. I hope to post photos next week of the mockup of my city background. I plan on using several of these structures as you will see, and still have plenty to choose from for the farm town on the other side of the backdrop. Thanks again for posting.

Well, I hate to say it but I cannot see any of the photos yet as they are blocked on my work computer, but I promise you this, once I get home I will definitely come back to this page and start building. Having a wife and 5 kids takes its toll on the financial portion of this hobby, and I have been looking into finding ways to make cardstock buildings and such to take the financial factor out of play. This thread is definitely what I have been looking for. Cardstock is nothing new to me. I have been building models for a few years now out of cardstock. Planes, military vehicles and I have found some good buildings ( they dont fit my layout though ) Thank you so much for this thread. I will submit any work I do cardstock related to this thread. Awesome job.

Mad_Mader there are lots of great sources for cardstock models that look really good. I'm in the same boat as you (got four little railroaders here to raise) and my budget is less than zero, yet I'm having very good results with cardstock models. If you haven't already, check out Clever Models, Scale Scenes, and Evan Designs (they make software for making card models/flats). All three have freebies in N-scale for you to download, print, and build. Here's some of what I've been able to accomplish:

The building is a freebie from Evan Designs, the wooden water tower is one I built with their software. And the signs on the building are from TomKat's other signs thread.

The brick building on the left is one I designed.

This station was designed by me (it's the Herndon Depot from the Washington & Old Dominion Railroad in Virginia).

Anyway, there are LOTS of options available. I'm working on a 5-story warehouse right now for my upcoming layout. Let me know if you want more tips, links, etc.

O.K. Here goes. I printed some black and white copies of some of TomKat's buildings ans glued them to chunks of a corrugated box just to see what they would look like. Pardon the crudeness of the mockup, but I immediately noticed that the backdrop seemed to be a lot further away. Anyway, here are the results. I've pretty well settled on the structures I want to use, although I'll need to edit out some of the modern details (rollup doors and such). The only thing I'm still stewing about is the one paper structure that will become a 3D building. The last three photos show the choices. Feel free to make suggestions as to which one looks best, as so far I'm undecided. The engine repair shop, the stores, or the Leonard building(undecided also as to what kind of a tenant that one should have if used)
