So, Chubberdog, those are just sheets of paper glued to cardboard and the brick shapes are an effect of the printing?

Sorry to necro-post on here as the thread has been idle for a long time, but I just wanted to say a massive Thank You! to Tomkat for doing these.

I've downloaded them all as I have about... 20 feet of backscene to built digitally. :)

This is why the topic has been kept up front. He also did one on old signs which was fantastic.

Yeah, I've been downloading all those too - insanely useful!

I'm currently collecting big brick structure kits to make an urban switching layout so the signs and the background flats are going to be insanely useful for this. :D

I'll post progress on the forum as and when the project starts, and link photos here as per Tomkat's requests :)

I will be studying this thread. It is my intention to have low relief structures on the Grey and Grandure. These will include buildings as small as an 1" outhouse to as large as a two foot skyscraper. My grandson will be my main helper. He has very sharp eyes and and open mind.

Steve, I got a pack of 65 pound paper from an office supply store. Don't know what its "official" name is, but it's stiff enough to hold its form, yet thin enough to cut with a #11 blade. Shirt cardboard is 100-120 pound which is easier to work with, but more difficult to cut, and dulls blades more quickly.

If your interested in the state of the art as far as cardstock kits you need to visit www.clevermodels.net
And wile our kits are for sale we do feature some free sample kits. We just instituted a formal schedule for the release of FREE kits that puts the release schedule in the modelers hands directly. Every 200 sales of any amount (large or small) will trigger a free kit. Our next free kit is a 2 story Farm house.
2 story farm house.jpg This is a very high quality kit, when its added to our for sale items in about 6 months it will sell for $9.95 But you can get it FREE. just watch the Clever models web site for the announcement and ofcourse you can help it along by making a purchase. Clever models kits can be printed in any scale and are easy to kitbash. Once you own it you can make as many as you need. I've got a lot of new kits that will be made available as freebies.

65# paper is usually known as Lightweight Card or Cover Stock. Heavyweight Card and Cover Stock is 120#.

Shirt cardboard contains tiny dirt particles, thus dulling blades quickly. It costs lots of money to make paper white and clean.

Clever models has been creating best in the business and low cost cardstock models for over 12 years. For a few dollars you can have access to excellently engineered craftsman level kits that can be printed in any scale and build a library of parts and textures that will serve you for a lifetime.
We now have a new freebie program you can take advantage of right now. Every 200th sale we post a quality FREE kit (thats about every 6 weeks). We are all about giving back to the hobby. We have thousands of happy builders and a great community over at www.Clevermodels.net

Another master with paper buildings is Kevin Phare whose work can be found at at http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/120848-little-muddle/. Nearly all his buildings are "brick" paper but not kit. This is English modeling and the art of using "building" papers for structures is almost an art form. The one thing I take from his modeling that is transferable to US prototypes is that attention to detail is the most important part of making a structure from paper realistic.

You might want to look at http://www.smartmodels.co.uk (although there is a domain name problem with this site at the moment.) I have downloaded his papers for several models. They come as pdf files that you can download upon payment. Hundreds of different types of stone and brick that can be ordered in different scales including HO.

    Hi All:

IM busy learning how to do paper models, both designing my own, and downloaded models. Im using clever models site and also team tracks models (Both are superb) -- any other sites that you all can recommend. IM looking more for 3d models that can be used as flats if desired, and in modern, rather than classic era

    Thanks
    TIM

Their textures are great, I printed out the texture on a 8.5"x11" label and wrapped pipe couplers.

Hello Tomkat, I appreciate your efforts and would like to model some of the structures but don't understand how to pull them from Photobucket.
