Thanks for the link Svein Next Weekend we have the Ontario Show I will have a better idea on how high it will go up after getting a Autorack / Double Stack from David
One step away from laying track.......... I can't wait until I can run a train on the Pass  The plan was to use a pair of the the MT bridge or a double bridge by Train Cat but I got a good deal on eBay for a built up Micron Art built by Tim/Rob @ Ztrack. The only problem I was having is the Abutment was too wide for my double main line and I needed to do some Bashing to get it to fit
Last Saturday I spent most of the day Railfanning the Donner Pass for the first time what a Blast! From what I was told not many trains ran thru the pass on the weekends but the views of this place are what I wanted to see  I started the day in Colfax getting pictures of the small town then made my way to Gold Run, Alta, Norden and Truckee. I spent most of my time in Colfax taking pics of the small town, Norden checking out the Snowsheds and driving thru the Old Snowsheds and Tunnels. Then I made my way to Truckee to see the Town and the UP Shop. The only thing I forgot to see and take pictures of was the River that ran thru Trckee I guess next time lol............ A few pic's from Colfax...........
Nice trip Mike! I did a similar tour in July, and stopped at Colfax too, but followed the old Nevada County Narrow Gauge line instead. These tours are great for inspiring module work!
The NCNG RR (otherwise known as the "Never Come, Never Go") was a neat short line between Colfax and Nevada City/Grass Valley. Had a freight and passenger station/interchange with the SP in Colfax. Ran roughly along hwy 174. I thought about modelling it in Nn3 many years ago until I decided to go Z.
Cool I was looking for some pics when it ran thru Colfax just to see what it looked like back in the day..........
Superelevated Curves For Donner Even in this small scale they look Sweet All track work should be done in a few days
Gerald Best's book "Nevada County Narrow Gauge" (now out of print for nearly 50 years) has some images plus a map of the Colfax station area. I'd scan and post them, but I'm not sure what trouble I be getting myself into. Mark
UP Maintenance Shop in Truckee Here is what I came up with for My First Kit Bash in Z a Randy Brown Maintenance Shop still have a few small details to add and a few MOW Trucks from stonysmith but for now it's done. The Town will also be getting a Truckee Hotel and a few shops if I have any space left over from Hotel and Maintenance Shop.
Hey Mike. What thickness shims are you using for the superelevation? i am just about to start laying track on 'Shasta' at the Z-bend end and am going for transition curves with superelevation on the tight bits. I am going to show the bare boards layout at Zedex 2011 in October to try and kickstart modular layouts in the U.K KEV
