Rob, Very good news indeed. Very pretty locs. I'll almost regret taking a saw and file to them. Almost. Dan S.
New Steam 2011 looks like being an outstanding year for Z gauge steam, a Big Boy coming and now Mikado's. My Challenger needs a big brother, and i can see the need for a big family of both light and heavy "mikes". Excellent work AZL.
Now Z steam is going to change! These locomotives look great. I did light up the pictures a little to see more details.
Oh Lord!! I gotta' go mow more lawns for some cash now! I can see one of these in Milwaukee markings! :teeth:
While they are beauties! I am not thrilled about the bell placement. Can somebody please tell me if the heavy version has a straight boiler? A photo would allow me to start planning for how many of these babies I will be picking up. Thanks.
Eddie, looking at Frank's doctored pix, the left heavy has an angle change on the left piping so I would say it has a taper boiler. But it is bigger on the front door. .
It looks like AZL got the dimensions right so you can assume they will be close to the real thing. Heavy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:USRA_Heavy_Mikado_diagram.jpg Light: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:USRA_Light_Mikado_diagram.jpg Click the drawings for a bigger image.
Thanks. I should have guess they went with the USRA prototype. It's going to be hard to kitbash these into WP & SP Mikes.
If it's any consolation, it's a lot easier to kitbash a straight boiler than a tapered boiler. I am on my third attempt at a Pennsy H6 consolidation boiler to rertofit a tenshodo. The heavy mikados boiler will be a much nicer starting point for me than the Marklin USRA Light for making Pennsy L1 Mikados. Not to mention the fact that AZL's mechanism looks great. Dan S.
No, but the WP had 5 USRA light Mikes that were sold to the Wabash in a hurry. I guess that counts. :tb-wink:
Price will not be set until late spring / early summer. Sorry about that. The motor will be in the tender. The most likely the motor will be the same as the one we have put in the RDC.
When can i order 1, Who will be selling these sweet steamers, This is what we need more of US steam engines,,
Steve, when there are announced (available), you can order from one of these Authorized dealers or Ztrack: http://www.ztrack.com/AZL/AZLdealers.html .
