Take a look at what I posted again real close, but you bring up a good point in which I tell everyone to get the documentation. The 629 was indeed the first Q engine to get the new scheme, the only one painted in Burlington when the Q was around as the others came from EMD and GE factory painted and the only one until the merger to get the logo. #629 was six months old when she was repainted as you see here with the logo on the cab without NORTHERN on the battery doors. That was in August of 1968. In January 1969, the Q took an order of 15 SD45's, all in the same scheme without the BN logo on the cabs or NORTHERN on the battery doors. In April 1969, the Q took an order of 9 GE U23C's, also in the same scheme and also without the BN logo on the cab and NORTHERN on the battery doors. The BN only existed in paper in 1968 and did not become BN until March 2nd, 1970. BN did not receive a standard Cascade green until the GP38's, #2072-2022 arrived in February 1971. So technically this was the only CB&Q painted by the Q with the BN logo. P.S. I still want to see that film as this era of mergers is really interesting.
i'm still looking for the film between the heated storage unit and the house there must be about 200 boxes it could be in and i was just giving you a bad time on the logo just thought it amusing L8R
No worries dude! I did my research, but you really got me wanting to see that old film! That would be so cool to see all that stuff in yards and on the mains.
Ok, for anyone that is going to Galesburg RR Days, check out the library at the model train show. Both Selleck's awesome scratch built Galesburg station and this locomotive will be there. Hope to see some of you guys there. Jess the railfan Jeep are hitting the road.
I know Mr. Selleck pretty well and I think he would wish it to be known that the model was never intended to be "class A". If memory serves, it was only intended to be a background prop for a depot platform diorama. Last I saw it, it was all track and foam. He had carved the subway (read underpass) of Seminary Street under the platform area and was working on a model of the Harvey? restaurant next door. He had plans for Seminary street tower and other nearby structures. Hope he brings it out to the show again sometime! Safe travels Jim. Give my love to five points.
Jim Wiggin and I went railfanning on Friday June 24 east of the Illinois River along the BNSF Chilllicothe Sub. We stopped at a county highway bridge near Wilburn Illinois and heard from another railfan that several trains were stacked up east of us, nose to tail, waiting for some MOW equipment to be moved across the tracks in Chillicothe, about 4 or 5 miles west of us on the west side of the Illinois River. When traffic started moving again, we caught several trains: BNSF 6722 UP 7916 And this shot of UP's distributed power just before it passed under us on the bridge: That's the light of a 3rd WB train in the distance. I'm not sure why so much UP power was heading up trains on the BNSF, but we saw several examples heading both east and west through the Chilli Sub.
A little later in the morning we shifted to another county road about 2 miles east and caught these pics of the BNSF Chillicothe Sub a mile or so north of Washburn Illinois. Eastbound UP 8474: Westbound UP 4303: and Westbound BNSF 4808:
