Almost finished redoing the railings/grabirons all in yellow... all that's left is the edges of the steps... what a PITA! Just blacked out 4 that I fouled up... wait for that to dry then I'll redo them.

Hopefully will have it finished this afternoon... then I'll dullcote it to protect it all. Then all I need is decals.

Unfortunately, No, I haven't. I've been too busy playing Coach Attendent on the State Fair Train (See blog for more info) to get around to the shell. It keeps staring at me though, so hopefully tomorrow I can, I'm taking a rest day then.

    Railings are DONE!

I know it's not perfect... but this is N scale and I'm painting with a whittled toothpick... and these photos are macro with the camera... looking with bare eyes it looks great!

Tomorrow I will throw it on my paint rack and dullcote it :)

Did a little tiny bit of touchup on the railings early this morning. Just sprayed them with dullcote (no need for gloss... they won't get decals ;)).

I'm going to let it dry overnight (I do NOT want to redo them lol) and then will assemble tomorrow and take some pics :)

    ok ok... I'm inpatient :p

I think it looks good... the dullcote on the railings really added to the realism...

However, now I have realized I have a slight run in the glosscote on one side of the cab... will make a mental note to weather it in :p

I haven't posted a update in a while... been putting off doing decals :p

Started tonight... 10:30pm... I'm tired... WHY NOT! lol

Got one side done... 2 numberboards, 1 'New York Central', 1 set of numbers on the side of the cab... but anyway... PICTURE!

decal1.jpg Those numberboards are a PITA! At first I thought... well... the sheet has some combinations of numbers where I could do TWO DIGITS PER PIECE!... but they're spaced too far apart and won't fit (I found out after trying)... BAH! 4 individual decals, about 1mm high...

I had thought about putting on one digit, let it dry, clear coat, repeat... but I'm lazy... and don't want 16 layers of clear lol.

    Comments, suggestions?

Got the front of the loco and the other side of the cab done already this morning! It does seem to get easier with practice (and copious amounts of cursing :ptongue:)

No pic yet... hopefully will get it finished today, and then post one :D

*nudge nudge* Flashwave... I seem to be getting ahead of you here ;)

Edit1: Just started on the other side... damnit! With microsol less is more.. I destroyed the 'New York Central' text decal :( Of course the decal sheet only has 2 in each size... so now the text is larger on one side than the other.

This thing isn't 100% prototypical anyway.... whats the best way to remove a already applied decal? At least I can make both sides the same...

Edit2: Got both numberboards on that side done!

Decals on, dullcote on... all dry... *drumroll*

Please welcome our latest addition... NEW YORK CENTRAL #8203!

I know the decals aren't perfect... but for my first attempt, and for being so #$%^#$% small... I think it looks damn good!

That looks great, Curto! I especially like the railings and detailing (red fuel filler cap, etc.).:thumbs_up:

well EXCUSE ME for playing with 1:1 scale for a moment. Or are you just feeling puny with your tiny trains?

It's amazing what you can do with a whittled down toothpick and a puddle of acrylic from a paint pen lol

1:1 is cool... Last fall we (me, wife, 2 boys) took a ride on the Adirondack Scenic Railway between Saranac Lake and Lake Placid in the Adirondacks... was awesome. We're planning on doing it again this fall... a great way to see the fall colors in the mountains. I need to get in touch with them also... they have a NYC RS-3 I'd love to get aboard ;)

Sorry if I offended you... I owe you a thanks for starting this thread which gave me enough info to get started... my next ambitious project will be a Dash8 in CSX YN2 scheme ;)
