Well I don't know about you guys but that weekend went by fast! I was able to work on nscalerone's locomotives a bit but could not finish the number boards in time. Saturday I was off to Bridgewater NJ for the Northeast Fallen Flags Prototype Meet. I still took the one Reading unit and even though it was not complete, people enjoyed viewing it. The hour and 10 minute trip was plagued by, you guessed it, rain! The meet however was valuable. I'm not sure of attendance, the picture below will give you an idea. The clinics were first rate and the provided lunch was better than some lunches I've had at wedding receptions.

Sunday I spent some time cleaning out the model room. With the move back home coming in five months, I need to condense my items. A lot of unused HO as well as Atlas snap track and modern N scale was inventoried, photographed and loaded on to that auction site.

So how about you? Was your weekend productive? Did you get everything done you set out to do originally? Did you have fun with the hobby? Post your comments and pictures if you have them and we'll do it all over again on Friday the 7th.

I did not get all of the roadbed down.

My brother-in-law showed up with two extra tickets to the Boise State game, we went with our wives to the game (they are sisters) on Saturday.

My friend gave me a metal storage building if I would come take it down. So I did that yesterday. I built a new floor for it and started on putting it back up. Having the shed will let me get a bunch of stuff, yard working stuff, out of my shop.

That pretty much took up my weekend. Fun and productive, just not much railroading.

Didn't get to everything I'd wanted to, but I did make good progress on some paper/card models.

The one on the left is the freebie from Evan Designs, done up as a coal dealer building (will scratch build some coal bunkers for out back from some scribed wood I have here). The other is an L-shaped building I'm designing as a small factory. I've added a sign that calls this one a place that makes chocolates and bon-bons, but the signs are separate and it could be anything you wanted. Signs are courtesy of TomKat's signs thread (thanks Tom!). Boy this sure is fun! :)

It was a dark and stormy day....

Pretty good for modeling, though. The slow saga of Merchant's Row continues. I got the first floor interior mostly done, including lighting, and the decals on one side of each overhanging sign for the shop names. The front and side walls, including the corner turret, are assembled and now the building is sitting in place on 3 walls.

While watching the games, I "paved" the road in front of the diner with Durhams Water Putty. It didn't set up hard yesterday, though, so I'll have to wait until tonight to sand and paint it. Great progress can be made when my wife spend the day on an artists' studio tour, but she took the camera, so sorry, no pictures.

The weather was so bad all weekend I didn't even get any train watching on my trip up and back. I didn't do anything else I wanted to do either, except to visit with friends.

So far I've finished my lumber yard at Salina.

Now I'm thinking about a gate. I think there should be two gates, each for one track.

    Scratch building is fun

I finished adding all the details to my Atlas U33C and applied the paint to the body and cab and when dry today or tomorrow I will apply the Penn Central decals to the unit. I also worked on building an IMRC 50' PS1 boxcar and also added details to a B&O GP40-2 and re-assembling a GP7 and GP40 that I had previously painted and lettered.

I, finally, got the spare parts I received from Intermountain installed on my 2 AC-12s (for one item l lost; one I broke; and one that was shipped wrong); and then got resistors installed in my City of LA passenger consist for block occy detection, as well as about a third of El Capitan consist. And, I RAN TRAINS!

Here's a GP9 chassis I built from bits and pieces from the junk box.

came out great. i'm wanting to drive over and pick up some fencing .
D-Rio, do you usually balast the line before getting the other scenery in place? looks like it would be difficult to get everything else in without disturbing the balast.

Kursplat I have done ballasting both ways and it seems be about equal work either way.

Though depending on the track location one method may be better then the other.

At least this is my take on it.:tb-smile:

I am still new to ballasting….. I didn’t really like doing the ballast first, but in this case I needed to get it back inside the tunnel entrance. So I thought I would get it down and then carefully finish the scenery around it.

Its been drying for a couple days, I went down and checked it out last night and cleaned up some of the bits on the ties and then vacuumed it and it all stayed in place :)

I am hoping that I will be able to cover it with blue tape while I complete the rest of the scene.

I am kinda stumped on how to attach the bridge at this point. I can’t work on the area behind it with it in, and I want it to blend well so still pondering how to go about that…

The bridge is solid while sitting there, so just need to make sure it blends in with scenery. I may either keep the plaster cloth a fraction above the post bases and then poke the post down through the cloth, or I may use some thick sculpt a mold, place it down on the bases and then press the bridge down into it, hoping to create post pockets, and then build the rest of the earth up around that. Maybe I can mess with it tonight.
