That fifteen foot long piece of real estate has endless potential for epic scenes of yard / industry / switching. I like this space!

The last plan is the Beer Line, a branch in Milwaukee. It is a project railroad by the Model railroader staff dating a decade ago. A sectional design that could be used in different ways. Paul
The area at your disposal is a lot bigger than I envisioned Paul. Sure you haven't moved the walls out a bit? Should make a great switching/industry layout, and the lift out bridge will add a natural scenic break.
Depends what is readily available to you, but I always use Peco Code 75. Although I think Peco 83 is more correct for US layouts.
Paul/colonel, Have you considered double decking with a loop on the end? Although the layout is fairly long, as a shelf layout train lengths will be limited; you may be able to get away with a tight radius on that loop for a return that leads to a second deck. I personally am not crazy about double decked layouts, but you could double your real estate and mainline run with an extra level.

i have a few favorite layout builds that are on british and european sites. This layout, although not quite my style, has a lot of impressive work in it. On the first page they show weathered track, but don't really explain their process for doing it. They use oil based paint and possibly dry brush the ties for effect.
