Hallo, after a longer hiatus I´m ready to tackle my next project: scenicing a four section americaN module for a friend of mine. Yard Extension is a very versatile "add-on" yard for smaller towns or in the vicinity of junctions. We tested it for several years and now it´s time for scenery This is how it looked after my friend added the basic landform (once we even used it as a staging yard): "Olsen Feed & Larsen Implements" from DPM delivered the wall modules for this building, which is placed at the northwestern stub track: The small engine facility will have a small engine shed. I will paint it buff with orange rolling doors: To have a "real" yard look 0.04'' foam rubber will be glued between the tracks and sifted ballast chipping will be fixed with a white glue / water mixture. The two following pictures show the test on an unfinished inglenook:
Progress report: 02-17-2013 This week I made some progress on the eastern segment: glueing foam rubber between the tracks, painting the track, basic ballasting andpainting and testfitting of the fence and the wheel stops. Here are some impressions:

Hallo, before I answer your questions, here the track scheme for Yard Extension: Besides it´s function as small yards, it will have two industries: Spelt & Taylor Trucking with three specific spots and the gate track. This track is intended as destination or origin of short unit trains. Since the industry behind the gate is not visible, it can be changed for every meeting: a quarry, a small power plant, a chemical plant.... Now to the questions about the materials: - The gate and fence are from the german manufacturer Ndetail - The rubber foam is also known as "craft foam sheet". I bought my sheets from amazon.de. The 1mm thick sheets are an exact match to the ties of Atlas Code 55 track. - The ballast for the main is ASOA Diabas N scale (1400), the ballast chipping is ASOA Basaltsplitt H0 scale (1205). - The color for the yard tracks is TAMIYA flat brown XF-10
Hello Bernd, many thanks!! Pure coincidence: I was at the Modellbahn-Atelier in Berlin last Friday. They have a great ASOA selction and I bought 1205 HO Split... And I am sure that I have Tamiya XF-10 floating around somewhere.... So it looks like Yard Extension will be green for Braunlage .... Can't wait to see it in person. Cheers Dirk

Almost two years passed since the last progress at the Yard Extension. The module did its job, but only with two of the four segments with vegetation: Or look at this video In the last weeks I made some essential progress on the module: Today was "tree planting day":

How do you control lining up the ends of the modules? I'm assuming you've created a template of some form that lines up with pins? I've got a layout in my basement that (due to expansion/reconfig needs) I'd like to make modular.
Looking good. The fuel pit looks nice and the simple greenery adds a nice look as well. Keep up the good work!
For the pins, look in my other thread. I used them in all my multi-segment modules for aligning the segments, which are always in the same manner: Appaloosa Junction Erehwyna Yard MoPac-Bridge For connections between (interchangeable) modules, you need some play between the two faceplates for alignment, unless you have some precise templates for drilling holes perpendicular holes in really exact relation to the track.
