Anyone out there paint a GO Transit MP loco yet on the KATO unit? Kicking one around.

Any suggestions on the paint color? Thanks.

I think it's entirely possible Kato might come out with one...there are enough commuter roads with MP36s, and GO Transit is one of the larger commuter operations out there.
I want a Metrolink one myself.

Commuter lines are the new passenger railroads!

I asked Kato about doing the GO when the MP36 came out and the reply I got was because the GO is an MP40 and longer then an MP36 it wouldn't be the correct engine so they more then likely wouldn't do it.

Benjamin Moore "Amazon Moss" #2037-10. Someone on the CN proto Yahoo Group told me years ago, I don't know how that helps as far as painting an N scale engine. And I didn't have an ALPS printer to make decals, so my F59PH project halted indefinitely.

My hope is Atlas will do their GP40-2 in GO for HO in N scale. Athearn F59PHI OK for AMT in Montreal, but no good for GO. :rats:

Well, I have the decals and a way to print them. Just have to work out the color so I know how many layers to print on the Alps.

Thinking ahead...wonder if Kato will be the first to release a model of EMD's upcoming F125 4700HP, 125MPH passenger loco.

I am not sure that is the case. Click on the link below and check out the two units and the difference in their lengths...

According to Wikipedia the MP36's are 68' long but I can not find information on how long the MP40s are, but looking at the photo linked to above it makes me wonder if maybe at least some of the GoT units could in fact be represented by the Kato model. You would likely need to use the VRE unit since it has similar grills to that used by GoT but a reasonable stand-in could be pulled off.

According to MPI's data sheets they are the same length, the difference is the prime mover, 645 in the 36 and 710 in the 40. Bob.

I would LOVE to get AMT decals for F40 and F59s - and the Bombardier cars.

I would say that if Kato did not make any changes to the body of the non Metra paint schemes those locos are incorrect also.
There are three models of the MPX locos.
    • MP36PH-3S Metra with its prime mover powered HEP power, same as the F40s.
Nicknamed "Screamers" as they cannot notch down while stopped when pulling trains.
    • MP36PH-3C Most agencies order the "C" or Caterpillar powered HEP units.
    • MP40PH-3C GO ordered the more powerful loco to poll longer trains

The noses vary the most noticeably. The Metra locos have an incredible lightshow. The other railroads much more subtle, often closing many of the holes or re-purposing them. On the rest of the exterior only vents and radiator grills change.

Has GO created a new paint scheme since Athearn released their last batch of cars?

I have found out that the Model Power F40 body drops right onto the Kato chassis. This works as a quick way to paint the loco. Model Power did offer a bunch pf schemes that Life-Like and Kato have ignored like GO and RTA.

Thanks for the offer but I will take care of this one on my own. Been painting for many years now.

I thought Microscale made AMT decals for the F40 (or at least something adaptable)?

I'd like to get the Amtrak F59's also along with some Surfliner ones. I probably could print both (since they are white) but the loco nose would be a challenge.
