Made this little thing a few years ago from Tichy, MDC and Athearn parts with a bunch of decals and placards. Sporting some Kato roller bearing trucks too. This bromine stuff must be heavy and some nasty stuff, 8 placards on this thing. Had a tank car like this on a train one time but it was painted different. This was so tiny and cool I had to have one. Very nice work .... looks almost beer can size . I thought it was 1:1 until I noticed the couplers, had the uncoupler rod/s been painted black I would have missed completly .... the MOW truck in the bg is what fooled me ! Wish my stuff looked that good !!!
Bromine weights 28 lbs per gal. I guess I'll post the photo of the one I built. You did a great job on yours. My DUPX 12405 eight axle will take a 28" rad. curve, but doesn't look very good doing so. Bobby
Since some of the tank cars shown above are examples of either unusual, or rarely seen cars, I'll include one that is very rarely seen on layouts. It's an example of an early insulated tank car, this model being the one offered years ago as a kit from Ambroid. NYW&B
NYW&B, neat car, one of my club members built that car and brings it to the club to run. I will go back to more mundane cars, although I like these special cars, especially that Bromine Tank. A couple of Walthers 10,000 Gal Tank Cars painted with Floquill and Scalecoat Paints and lettered with Champ Decals. I'll drop in another rather obscure HO tank car used on my layout. This on is a Monsanto nitric acid tank car. If I recall correctly, this was originally a Red Ball kit that was offered a great many years ago (note the real sprung trucks). I picked up this example at least a decade ago. NYW&B

More tank cars coming...Texas Midland...St. Louis, Brownsville & Mexico, Peerless Tank Line, and Union Tank Line. All boiler types circa 1900.
A couple of tank cars I recently finished. Since our club changes eras around I have some old tank cars from the 50's like the first car, and some newer cars like the second car. Intermountain 10,000 Gal Tank Car Kit, painted with Flquil Black Paint and lettered with Champ Decals. Continental Oil owned about 6,000 tank cars of various sizes, so I felt this car could be used almost anywhere. Atlas 17,360 Gal Tank Car Kit, painted with Floquil Dark Green Paint and lettered with Highball Graphics Decals. Dana Rail is in Delaware and mostly owns 23,500 Gal Tank cars but does have a few of these small tank cars and leases them to various users. Rick J
A very good thread for sure, I enjoy seeing the others efforts. I had a car in a train years ago that resembled this tank car. I wonder why they would have the trucks inset so far from the ends? I am sure there is a reason but??? made this car from PVC pipe and MDC/Roundhouse parts.
Here are two scratchbuilt HO tankers I did a couple of years ago. Thanks to "tankcarsrule" (Bobby) for the inspiration and encouragement to go outside my comfort zone in attempting these. Recently photographed outside on a simple diorama.
