    Hello everyone:

Just a short update on things about me on June 3rd 2013 I moved from Tampa, FL to Gulfport, MS so now with that said I will be reporting every time I see the KCS Gulport local.

While I was at my grandpa house in the evening around 6pm I caught the southbound local heading to Gulfport with a pair of KCS SD40-3s for power! I only had my cell phone with me at the time so the pictures are not the best but here they are. Enjoy

    Aaron,
nice catch. nice to see them still in gray.
FWIW, the cellphone would probably have done better in better (more uniform) light.

Hi Aaron, welcome "Home". Traffic on the Sub has changed since you were last here as you may have noticed. Trains are now running five, even six days a week including some Sundays, and sometimes twice a day. However the trains are shorter, probably to give customers better service with faster shipments.

Also, a friend of mine has noticed that many times when three or four engines are assigned, the lead one or two will be isolated with the lagging engines providing power. I wonder if the lead engines can be brought on-line quickly if more power is needed for locations with steeper grades further north near Camp Shelby and Hattiesburg.
Looking forward to more of your photos. BTW, I like the shadows, makes it look cooler for the crew on our 90 degree days...;)

Thank you Philip. Yeah it was nice catching them still in the grey KCS paint scheme. I was going to try and get the pictures of this train in the sun but he came up on me too fast to get the picture that I wanted to get so I had to get him in the shadows.

Thank you Sir. I notice the rail traffic on this line has picked up my grandpa told me sometimes he will see one going north very early in the morning and right around about 5:30pm to 8pm he will see a northbound come by in the same day. Im very glad to hear this information Hytec this line looks really nice! looking forward to catching the KCS locals on this line in the future!.

Aaron, I'm looking forward to the FRA certifying the line as Class 4, hopefully by next summer. Then these babies will be "flying through" at 49 mph. I believe all the bridges have been rebuilt and/or upgraded. The ones over the Big Biloxi and Red Creek are brand new with the wooden trestles replaced by concrete piles and steel decks. So I assume the others further north have been also. I haven't heard where the new 8,000 foot passing siding will be installed, but I was told it will be somewhere between your Grandpa's place and Wiggins. I also was told it won't be located where it would block roads, farm crossings, or logging trails. Maybe you'll hear of something in your travels...?

That will be great! if the FRA certify this line to class 4 by next summer and catching the trains doing about 50 mph will be awesome! great to hear some of the bridges have been rebuilt/upgraded. If I hear any information about the 8,000 foot siding I will be sure to post the information on here once I get it. I got a feeling it will be somewhere between my grandpa's place and Wiggins just for the fact from Glenn Lott Rd going north pretty much all the crossing up that way to Wiggins are all private crossings or dirt road crossing. None of them I don't think up that way I know of are not no main road crossings that have crossings gates on them.

I think KCS probably wants about 8,000 feet of clear track with no crossings of any sort that could be blocked by a freight waiting for an opposing train. Farmers and loggers can get angry when they are blocked for more than few minutes, and most could be armed. Remember, Mississippi just passed a concealed weapons law, which I believe goes into effect on July 1st.

I hope all those crossings have permits from the RR. I have seen many a time where some naïve individual, or good old boy, simply throws a crossing in to access their property, without following proper protocols.
