Just an update, The Pr-Rebuilt water bottle test print has been ordered! If it survives Shapeways' print check they say it will be shipped to me on or before the 13th of Feb. -James
Nice, Shapeways just approved the Turbine/per-rebuilt water tender for printing, shipping 13th Feb. Approved on the first run, I must be getting good at this -James
Hi Hemi, Is the photo above yours? Cracking photo. I would like a photo smiler to this for my blog, the pre Rebuilts should be ready any day now, but I need a photo that I have permission to use. If it is yours can I use it or if it is not does anybody else have one similar. UP 844 also works as long as it has two pre-rebuilt tenders in it. Cheers, -James
The photos I posted are mine. The photos I linked are not. Photos I posted are circa 2003-2006. Feel free to use them, with appropriate credits to Jeremiah Siembida (my actual name). Thanks for asking!
Thanks Hemi, will do. I will let you know when the new page with the photo is up. Shapeways still show in production for pre-rebuild, they where due to ship yesterday, maybe today I will get the god news. -James
Well the pre-rebuilt turned up and I must say even through all the waxy residue it looks fantastic! The pictures don't do it justice. This is how they are right out of the box from Shapeways. The sides are smooth and it looks like all of the detail came out well, not that you can see it all yet. All the parts are in the Goo Gone as I type this so the final test will be tonight/tomorrow when they come out and get test fitted together. If all is good I'll let you have at um! - James
Holy cow, James. I haven't even had a chance to make significant headway on the DD35 re-runs, and here you are twisting my arm makin' me get more of your fantastic models. Keep up the great work!
Despite me NOT having any interest in the UP, although I have a DD40, Turbine and 2 SD40's..... Were these tanks used on anything else at some point? Wonder if I could buy one, and paint it for the Rio Grande instead?? To go behind one of my Challengers - Athearn or Rivarossi. Athearn - IF I can get it repaired. Front drivers siezed. Rivarossi - Needs to have a DCC decoder installed, maybe sound also. Very nicely done project BTW!! Eager to see what they look like painted! Without going back through 68 pages worth of info, what couplers are these designed for?
Hi Keith, They take Micortrains Body Mount couplers (1015). And I recon they would look cool in any color behind any steamer! ;-) Cheers, -James
Well, after a thorough inspection I can confirm the Pre Rebuilt UP Water Tenders are Fab! These photos don't do it justice, the side are smooth! Bob now has it and will be painting it up. "But what about us" I here you thinking well...... You can get them here.... Type 1 with out extra piping Type 2 with extra piping Type 1 & Type 2 And if you are wondering what the difference is between Type 1 and Type 2 the best thing is to have a look at the new page on my blog where I explain it all. Union Pacific’s Pre Rebuilt/Ex Gas Turbine Water Tenders -James
Here are some work in progress shots of the Pre Rebuilt water tender. It still needs a few final details like couplers but is is almost there, Bob has done another great Job with the paint and the grab rails. Here it is with a UP 8500 Turbine. -James
I'd just like to point out that the color of the tender doesn't match that of the Gas-Turbine for a reason. That's because it's painted to match the Kato COLA passenger car set, so is a little darker and more red. Cheers.
My tenders don't exactly match the CoLA set but the CoLA set doesn't match the Kato business car and none of that stuff matches any of the Kato UP power. Armor yellow is an elusive target. I'm over it. Interesting reference: http://utahrails.net/up/up-paint-html.php Speaking of elusive targets: Tiny handrails with 63-year-old eyes & fingers in charge of fabrication. I may be running the tenders sans handrails on top.
I'm with ya, brother. Given the vaguries of the "real world", I think that perfectly color-matched passenger train equipment is a pipe dream that only exists in the fevered minds of anal-retentive modelers. Me? I've moved on from all of that Cheers, -Mark
