ok, some people get in an uproar about what a model railroader is. THIS IS NOT TO CAUSE THAT ARGUMENT! All of us love trains, and all of us buy model trains.. That being said, do you have a layout?
Yep. Here is a ~month old shot of The Saguaro,Celotex and Plywood RR. I re-arranged the track a bit since then, and I even figured out that the inhabitants to my layout are going to be 1 1/2" tall, so now things are moving ahead full steam! Hooray! P.S. You might have included options for a "full layout" and a "micro layout". Many people insist that a 3 foot long 1x12 with a length of track on it is a "layout", when I think the proper term for these shelf "switching layouts" would be something like "diorama" or maybe "kinetic diorama". Not to start that argument or anything....
Yes, finally! After being a member on TB for 10 years, I've started a layout. It's an HCD, just a simple oval with sidings, but it's got me running trains again.
hey, I think that if you can make a loco move on your layout, then you have one! Mine is 86 inches long in N scale, and I think that is pushing the limits of how small a layout can be.
Good for you John. This is my first layout in 35 years and I mainly got interested in the hobby again because my retired dad started one, and I just wanted something to BS with the Ol man about and whatnot so I started making some things I could send him in the mail, and then I got sucked in all the way and decided to make my own layout too. I almost went with just the 4x8 section with celotex in my pic, and after making it I decided "ta heck with it" and went all the way around the room. Shot showing the rest of the benchwork.
JB, mine is my first one since I discovered girls and cars. The wife new that I bought trains, but she is not train friendly. I waited for her to go to California with 2 of our daughters in Spring break while I stayed home with our third who had school. I had all the track laid and wired while she was gone....
I clicked "between layouts." My East Texas layout demised six years ago... dismantlement photo: My Island Seaport does not even have four-foot two sections operating... But I have a 2 x 3 foot portable blimp-base layout I can operate at train shows. So I guess I could claim to have a layout.
Yep, same here. My 4x8 with 2x8 extension childhood layout got passed down to relatives when I was about 16. But, my wife is as happy as a hotdog with mustard about my new MRR hobby. I have been keeping it cheap (bought most of the gear used/NOS, less than $500 total so far) and all I have to do is suggest that I take up my old hobby of a few decades of hanging out Honkytonkin' and playing pool all night and she starts bringing home train gear!
hmmm....my old hobbies were dumping tons of money into 1980's Mustangs and chasing skirts....maybe that will work!
A strategically placed AutoTrader here and there might do the trick. Hinting that you might start that other old hobby would most likely backfire in dramatic fashion gauging from my experience with these creatures....
maybe I should leave a certain magazine left open to this page..... http://www.allfordmustangs.com/photopost/showfull.php?photo=31867
I'm between main layouts mainly due to multiple moves and then a baby, but I am working right now on a 2x3 n scale project. Plus the club where I'm on the planning commitee, so I have input on design.
I have a small #1 gauge outdoors. About 1500 feet of trackage. Been there 20+ years. I have a HiRail in the basement, sat dormant for 20 years until I retired, got it re-connected...putting 2-rail 0 around the outside of the HiRail.I have enough engines, cars, track, switches, power supplies and maybe buildings to build a LARGE Half 0 pike...but I decided that is not going to happen. Too many things to do. Dave
I personally use a strict interpretation of the word. I don't consider my hollow core door test track to be a "layout" nor all my NTRAK and T-Track modules. Some day however, I will build my layout.
