Will you need to add a gusset or brace for those valance supports, to keep them from sagging?

going to try a brace on each support if that doesnt work i will suspend from ceiling although would rather not attach to house. The valance will only be holding up some thin MDF and strip LED lighting

Today i continued working on the layout and am happy with the progress, tomorrow I should complete the bench top then need to work out how to add the backdrop. My goal is too complete all the back drop before planning on any track laying

thanks everyone the 9mm mdf top has been built now wondering whether to do the backdrop and valance before i start drawing up the design, my goal was to have the backdrop installed and painted before i brought all the track out.

    Comments????

Depends on what sort of backdrop. If it is just sky, etc. I would do it first, but if it needs to match various areas of the layout, would do it later - or maybe a combination of above.

Did a few more hours work today and am pleased with the progress. first I tested using strip LED lighting which looks great and will be much better once the valance is installed

I then installed most of the backdrop and installed a section of fascia to see how it all looked

Next is to complete the fascia then install the valance then paint it all

When you install the backdrop, do you just notch it out to fit where the braces are at the top? Thanks.

This is a wonderful way to build a layout. It has all the correct characteristics.

A little more work this evening, I set up the frame for the valance, took a little to figure out but in the end happy with the result, pleased to report very little sag.

Thanks for the compliment, my goal is to complete all the bench work including painting before I even think about laying track. I am still planning the phases but at this stage i will lay and wire the track and operate to ensure no track issues, The layout will get base scenery and structures then over time each structure and area will be super detailed
