We are finally ready to start the release of our SD70 series locomotives. What is new? First we offer a brand new chassis with the same cordless motor we are currently using in the GP38-2, GP30, RDC and the Mikado. The SD70 now uses our common PCB that can be interchanged with a Digitrax DCC board.
We are also offering a new body style, the original SD70 with Standard Cab.
As of next week, the Illinois Central SD70 will be released to our dealers followed by a new release about every 3 weeks. As usual our locomotives will feature details true to each operator. Most locomotives will have up to 4 different road numbers. Based on prior demand, we will be re-releasing the UP SD70M Flared, CN SD70I and BNSF SD75M. New releases include IC, NS, Conrail and CN SD70. NS SD70M Flared. CSX, NYS&Q and SP SD70M. ATSF SD75M.
We will also offer SD70 chassis for sale later.
    Sincerely, Hans Riddervold (AZL)

Great news. I was hoping they were on their way after reading in AZL forum that highest on your priority now was testing the entire shipment. Sounded like they were finally inhouse and not on a slow boat from China. I knew I wouldn't stay rich for long. :)

A quick mention. The UP SD70M, CN SD75I and BNSF SD75M have different road numbers from the first run.

    Rob,
I don't know if this is asking too much, but for those of us who are really not up on our locos and the differences in detail, would it be possible to summarize the differences between the different locos coming out currently and soon?

    SD70 locomotive differences:

Think I need to do the short version. I will concentrate on Z scale, not the actual prototypes.

SD70: The first EMD SD70 locomotive and intended to replace the SD60. Was originally ordered by NS, IC and Conrail. Used the classic standard cab from EMD. There are no differences between the AZL SD70 standard cab locomotives.

SD70M: The most common SD70 and has the Safety Cab. Some versions had flared (or angeles) radiator vents. UP and NS will be available with flared radiators.

SD75I and SD75M: The are identical looking to the SD70M. Main difference is that the Safety Cab has a line going through the nose area which is an additional crash cushion. Straight radiator vents.

Other: Notice that we offer individual versions with nose or cab roof headlights. Also, the Cab battery box doors and maintenance doors are different according to Railroad.

    Sincerely, Hans (AZL)

Thank you Hans. I'd love to see the SD70Mac too, as that is what Alaska RR has. Guess I'll have to do some bashing and crashing to get them to look like the Mac. John, which one would be the best for conversion?

Loren, the closest SD70 is the flared version. ARR SD70's were some of the last Macs build, so they had the upgraded cooling radiators.
