I joined Trainboard in March 2000. At that time I was member #300. Trainboard quit posting member numbers some time ago but join dates are still listed in posts. I would just like to know how many people are still here from when Trainboard first started. I don't expect that I am the oldest member still around but just curious as to how many of the early members are still reading and posting here.
Feb 17, 2001. Hardly as ancient as some, but still comfortable with my membership. Many thanks to Charlie and all who established the Train Board culture, and who have guided it successfully for over 14 years.
I am far from the oldest, however I elected to post because I enjoy the forum. I did not know model railroad forums existed until sometime in 2005 when I did a google search and found discussion of the topic on the former Atlas forum. After that went off the air, I searched for options to read and share. That brought me here. Thanks for being a welcoming place.
I was involved with a Frisco email group when Charlie and a few other folks started Trainboard. He put out an invitation to the group to come over and join. Evidently I did on April Fool's Day in 2000, but after making a few posts I forgot that I joined . A few years later, when the Atlas Forum shut down for a few weeks, I followed a bunch of the N scale guys over here and joined again. Charlie merged the two accounts when it became evident that I was already a member.
I don't remember how I ended up here but I believe I signed up within a week or two of Trainboard starting.
It was a long time ago and I've enjoyed TB almost every day! If you hover over the name (orange link), you can see the user ID. Mine is 145. Inkaneer is 92 and RI Straw is 149.
I did not join at the beginning. I had a friend who was a moderator here at startup, and he kept insisting I should come aboard. Instead, from the early days I was merely a lurker: until early 2002, when the arm twisting finally became convincing enough. Twelve and a half years later.... Argh. Where has the time gone?
*Sigh* Well, that's what constant health setbacks can do. Create a lot of time when little other activity can be conducted.
I joined May 22 of 2000 so I'm a bit later than several you. Ryan, when I hover over the name all I see is "Ryan Wilkerson is online now".
Roger, When you hover over your name look down at the bottom left of your screen and you will see www.trainboard.com/grapevine/member.php?265-MioneRR. 265 is your member number. Regards, Charles
The member numbers are not entirely accurate. When we changed from the software that TrainBoard started with, all of the data had to be imported from the old software into the new software. That changed a lot of the member numbers. It seemed to me that the new numbers were in what order the data was imported. For example, I was #2 in the old software. In the new software I became #6, which is what I am now. It did not (seem to) simply move everyone forward four places either (as it did me). I was the first "human" member of TrainBoard. Member #1 was a dummy administator member that existed when the original software was installed. That made me #2. As soon as I created a profile for myself the dummy profile (#1) was deleted. There are still quite a few folks that post here that show join dates in March, April, May and so on in 2000. That's great! We welcome new people just the same as people that have been here for 14 years though. This thread is a good place to allow me to state that some changes are coming so don't touch that dial. Charlie
It just occurred to me that back on 6/28/14, I spent exactly half of my life as a Trainboard member. How wild is that? Scary? Maybe ... Sent from my LG-P930 using Tapatalk 2
I guess not. I'm 265 and joined in May of 2000. GP30 joined 2 months before me and his number is 581.
I had two different accounts. At some point I must have locked out and forgot the password recovery key and setup a new account which was later merged. Might explain reverse order, oh well... Sent from my LG-P930 using Tapatalk 2
Mine changed quite radically when the event Charlie noted came along. I was circa 2300-2400, that became 1367.
