I had an idea to build a locomotive out of parts for other engines to create a fictional design.
I was thinking about a model to somewhat simulate a steam turbine electric locomotive.
Does this sound feasible or ridiculous? Has anyone here seen or built a fictitious locomotive model of any kind?

I am in the process of taking an Athearn Challenger and making it SP. I am replacing the tender with one off of a Kato GS-4. Luckily, it already has the train number boards on the front. My premise is that the SP used them on the Sunset route for fast freights.

I've built an SD30, using 2 Bachmann GP30 bodies mounted on an Athearn SD9 chassis. I'm also working on designing what I call an Dash8-40CS, where I take a RPP Dash8-40B body and mount it on an Athearn "C" boat chassis.

Well, this is a fantasy hobby so why not.

My little Freelanced (proto-freelanced mind you) Railroad has an engine shop in line with Altoona.

Currently sitting there is a GP40 shell which is going to get reworked with a GP60M style wide cab to satisfy a requirement by mgmt that lead road locos have better safety cabs. I may also do a road slug with such a cab.

I also plan to do an SD22ECO which will use an SD9 as the base.
EMD made a GP22ECO demo unit on a GP9 and one on a GP40, but they never did an SD22 demo and the only ones they've built have been on SD40-2 chassis.

I figure, if they can fit the power kit in a GP9, then it should fit easily in an SD9. Since my Railroad's Oregon division includes the PoTB railroad and all those SD9s that were cut up in real life. It seems like a natural. Medium HP 6 axle for branch lines.

What I'm thinking about: a CF7 keeping its original bulldog nose. ;)

That would be about as cool as some of those weird Mexican 1:1 kitbashes (I vaguely remember a model RR magazine article titled Horrible Heffalumps...).

    Does this count:

Geep chassis with a MRC Y6b on top. I never persued getting it running, but maybe some day.

Pair of LL locos epoxied back to back. I never could engineer a better wheel arrangement. Sill, it could haul a ton of cars.

This is the nmra officially sanctioned non-offensive locomotive:

What year was this done? I cannot recall... Seems like it goes back a few?

Would one of Grey One's "Thrombulators" fit in there? Gives a cab forward a whole new attitude. Bobby

Don't remember. When I got it, it was attributed to some clown.....err.....person named Ames. No idea true or naught.

    I love it! And it's a cab-forward.

If you really want wacky, put the front end of a BL2 on there... :teeth:

The "Grey and Grandure's" shops would have to approve the application. Did you want the freight or passenger version?

The shops at GandG are thinking a possible camel back application with electrification and thromer scoops.

I want a 67 GTCS but don't cut up an F unit in the process.

I have seen someone bash an Athearn F7 A-unit shell, adding a cab off another F-unit on the other end. Looks like EMD's version of Baldwin's twin-cab Babyface units, if not certain diesels in Australia.

    One of these, I guess? ;) FCP521a_zps3416cc4f.jpg

(Don't even know what this weird thing initially was: a sort of GE U-Boat or an ALCO RS-something that would have had forbidden sex with a GE Shovelnose ;) ....)
