I sure liked the paint schemes from back then, a lot more than that of today.

What is the status of 1522? Didn't I read a while back, of an effort ongoing to steam her again?

I don't know. Last I saw it, it was still cold sitting in the yard at the Museum of Transportation in St. Louis.

1522's organization is out of $$ and there is no plan to get her running again. Really unfortunate. She was a real crowd pleaser, allegedly the loudest in stack talk among the preserved locomotives.

Here is an old one that I shot on cheep color print film back before digital cameras. Could not afford Kodachrome all the time.

Me too and very little graffiti on freight cars back then.

Same here - paint schemes were more interesting and varied. And no graffiti makes it easier to model. A time before vandalism was considered art.:eek:hboy:

    I second that.

Not steam but interesting. At one time real common in Galesburg, now they have been replaced with SD40-2's. Never thought I would grow nostalgic over Cascade Green.

Nice shot Jim. When I was a kid in Chicago, I recall that BN ran some neat TV ads to promote the new railroad. Then when I went away to school, a professor ran BN's 1973 film Portrait of A Railroad which I though was so cool. Yep, I miss Cascade Green too. One of the few BN units I have on film is this poor scan of a unit at the former Frisco yard in East Thomas (Birmingham), AL taken in August 1990.

I used to see them often 8 or 9 years ago but they are quite rare now. This one is from February 2007.

I did find some old b&w photos of a BN boxcar and NP boxcar, taken between '73 and '75 before I shot color. Alas, that wonderful pre-graffiti era is seen again.

Back when we had better parents, and children did not have the 'right' to freely commit criminal acts. :(

This looks like an interesting place. Did you need to hike in?

Yes, but this spot isn't too bad to access, just a steep uphill walk for maybe 1/2 mile. The west end of the Loops is more remote, but is somewhat close to long-abandoned, grown-in, impassible-by-car US-70 and the old highway provides a hiking avenue to access the railroad. I hope to check it out someday.
