I'm on Twitter but I don't tweet much as I can't keep it under 140 characters!

I've actually noticed that even in yard sales people aren't buying the same anymore. They want you to give them really valuable stuff for pennies. Most people won't buy an item if the price is low, either: you have to mark it up so they'll think it's really valuable, then act mad when you have to practically give it to them. I have a firescreen that's like new, hardly used, and bought for about $300, and I wanted was $50. People won't buy it. They would rather buy a really cheap piece of crap at the hardware store for $200. It's the weirdest thing...and I think it's true everywhere, even on Ebay. Cheap and new seems to be much more prized today than quality and used.

I'm older than you, so I guess that makes me the oldest member. Though since I haven't been there much at all, maybe I don't count. :)

Well, I just posted to the 'Layout Design Forum'. Yep, me. I'm up against the wall - literally with the layout and not sure what to do.

Two reasons come to mind immediately. First the upsurge is due to the number of people banned from The Railwire and secondly, the closing of the Atlas Forum. I would tend to go with the latter rather than the former.

I think its a 50/50 split. But thats ok...TrainBoard gains from their loss ;-)

Actually a very good number of people come via word of mouth- Referrals such as from friends and other modelers. And a large number find us by using Google searches.

It's funny I've been a member since April 2000 (#195) to. But I'm still listed as a NEW member.
So obviously it goes by the number of posts you do and not the time spent here.

I spend most of my time modeling and not posting about it. I do not have the time to do both.
You can see some of my work on the web at Republic Locomotive Works, Marshall uses some of my
buildings in the catalog area (4 or 5) look for Robert Childress or Bob Childress in the description
    of the kits

March of 2000 for me too. Does that make me a heritage member? Hmm. Yeah like a lot of us, a lot has changed. When I joined, I was happily married, moving on to a career from a "punch a time clock job", had been super active in my club and overall a much more optimistic person. Funny, 15 years later, I'm single, have a "punch the time clock" retail job and I'm super active in another N scale club. Life has certainly effected my hobby, but Trainboard is still here. One of the few things in my life that has not changed.

I found Trainboard with a Google search and joined right after I moved to my current place. I found myself living alone in 1800 square feet. I briefly reviewed the Atlas board but the level of rudeness turned me away.
My memories here are long deep and wide.

ynono, At this rate you will still be a new member some 18 years from now. Nothing wrong with your modeling I can see, so maybe it is time to show us some things. Jim

The Atlas Forum, in each of its configurations had problems but the very first edition of the Atlas forum was, in my opinion, the best of the bunch. That was a time when the internet was a much more simpler and genteel place and forums were great sources of information. That does not mean that they are not sources of information today. They are but we have gained a complexity not present early on. Unfortunately we will never get back to that simpler and more genteel place. Trainboard comes closest, I think.

Never did AOL, but the first group I was in was on Prodigy. Then I joined the Stanford forum which morphed into the Yahoo group. The owner of the Stanford group was a member of our club.

Ah, the old Aol board I seem to recall a Forum which was railroad models rec...unread N-Scaleor something of that nature as well as N-Scale For Sale Board by Robert Russell, who went by daylight99 or was it his email that was daylight99@aol.com I think these sites were found between 1998- 2000's before Aol shutdown its Aol Hometown site. Anyone else here remember these sites?

I wander through here every once in a while and noticed this thread. I joined Trainboard back in November 2001 and I think my ID is 1139. I was also active on the Atlas forum and remember many fires that Paul & Rob had to put out over the years. It's a shame that it became too much trouble for its worth.

My N-scale layout has been covered under a thin sheet of plastic for the past four years. I've had no time (or money) to put into it. Too busy writing and publishing novels these days. Someday I'll come back to it, and when I do, I'm sure this place will still be around.

    Long live Trainboard!
