Frustrating and upsetting to read this sort of thing; I'm guessing that this is signaled territory, being the NS main between Macon, GA and Savannah, GA. Sandersville is actually on a branchline and upon seeing stack train, I'm thinking that the collision was actually on the main just east of Tennille, GA. I have to give the newspeople credit, as they promised updates on the welfare of the injured train crew.
4-5 miles SE of Sandersville, 3 miles east of Tennille. All single track from Tennille to Davisboro. Why were they on a single track?
