Meanwhile in Catoosa, the yard boys at Hughes lumber had a busy morning with inbound road freight and getting the latest load of plywood unloaded from Washington. As soon as this YRC shipment is unloaded, it's off to lunch! Tom, those are great pictures, I appreciate seeing it on your layout.
WAMX 178603 dep GJC on a East bound freight headed for Delaware. We enjoyed it here in GJ. tracking number; 9405 5036 9930 0159 5114 01
Cool Tom, glad to have shared it! Thanks for putting up pictures of it. John, feel free to add your personal touch!!!!
FYI- the car is going NS from Chicago, Il to Conway(Pittsburgh), PA. From there it is going to Harrington, DE to be interchanged with Delaware Coast Line(DCL). Once loaded, it will be interchanged back to NS for interchange with CSX at Wilmington, DE. From there CSX Q373 will take it to Cumberland, MD. The transfer will take it from Cumberland, MD to Bayard, WV(my layout) for delivery. Once empty... it should be shipped back to the home road. Thank you for sharing your hopper car! JMS
You guys are welcome, I'm open if anyone else wants to host it. John, can't wait to see what those eastern taggers comeup with! Thanks, Dale
The hopper arrived in Cumberland, MD this morning. Since the transfer doesn't run on Sundays... prob will not make it to Bayard, WV until tomorrow. JMS Dale- should tags be rated PG or R? LOL!
Before I retired I used to go to the Port of Catoosa a couple of times a week to pick up petroleum wax. It would come by rail car from the refinery in Tulsa and they'd pump it into holding tanks. There was always a lot of rail activity and it would make a great subject for a model railroad. A couple of their engines... and yes, it was cold. Regards, Len
Hi Len, I haven't got around to painting a loco for it yet. That is in the plans though. Thank you very much for the pictures, they will help greatly when the time comes! Dale
Well, WAMX 178603 arrived at Bayard, WV today. I managed to get some pics of the transfer from Cumberland, MD dropping its cars in the yard. Looks like some taggers were busy on its way here! JMS
Well from the looks of things they didn't just pick on it! That whole string is a moving wall of "art"! LOL Nice pictures John!
I say John, Thats a fine piece of work there!! That power arrangement is just what you see a lot, good old SD's still doin the deed Some folks cant stand Graffiti, but some of these people are artists.. I always enjoy seeing your photos John, great work.
Like it or not, graffiti has become part of the landscape around railroads. Some of it is pretty good, some looks like a 4 year old did it. But it does add visual interest. Most of us want to reflect what we see in real life so it is part of our modeling. SKOL is still using SD's to run cars into the port. I may have to add one or two to the roster at some point.
Well, my layout is stuck in the 2004-2005 timeframe... so, that primer GEVO is considered brand new! And, being 10 years ago, the SD's are still pulling their weight(excuse the pun) more so than today! JMS
Yes, looks like the whole string got tagged! LOL! When I tag cars, I only do one side. That way, I can run the car "clean" or "tagged". The tag your hopper got is also a riddle... sort of. It has to do a little with your "Eastern Taggers" statement. BUt, your answers must be in the form of a question! LOL! JMS
I give up. John, you have me now, that is the riddle? Also, what do you use to make your graffiti? I have an idea for one to honor the trip after it gets home. It's fun to send one of these out to make rounds then have it return home.
BAK 37. BAK is the designation for CSX's Philadelphia Subdivision. 37 is the mile marker in my hometown. That way you have a "tag" that shows exactly where your car went. I used regular old bottle paint and very fine/small artist brushes. All tags are hand painted... either from a photo I have taken... or like the BAK37... a homemade one. I have the BAK37 on another car also. JMS
